Here in New York City, racial injustice protesters could receive a share of $13 million. This after a lawsuit was filed yesterday on behalf of about 1300 people who were arrested and were beaten by the city's police during demonstrations in the summer of 2020. That of course is after the police killing of George Floyd. If approved by a judge, it would be one of the most expensive payouts ever awarded in a lawsuit stemming from mass arrests. According to attorneys involved, people arrested or subjected to force by NYPD officers at the protests could be eligible for nearly $10,000 in compensation.
