Hm. Today, good news does exist, you know, give us a shot. You'll be pleasantly surprised how one multi million dollar business venture is giving people of all abilities a shot at employment. Plus turning heartbreak into a humanitarian effort. We're not alone. There are millions of other families and we're like, if we can brighten up someone's day that may as well help them and bring joy to them. Two sisters find a way to bring joy to kids battling cancer. A personal cause that's near and dear to their hearts. This is his chance. This is it for him. We are so hopeful how a viral post helped this rescue pup find its fur ever home. And one woman with Parkinson's disease has found a way to dance through life, lift the weights that we carry around during the day. How finding her community became the medicine she needed. Now, for our first story, it's one that shines a spotlight on what we're all about. Here on a positive note, humanity, kindness and a belief in one another. Let's take a look at how one business is making the workplace inclusive for people of all abilities. Five days a week, spectrum designs, buzzes with activity churning out thousands of custom printed items a day, all made with care by employees on the autism spectrum including Josh Muy, I'm on the spectrum and I never let that stop me, actually embraced it for Mursi. Working at spectrum designs has been life changing. The 30 year old says previous employers treated him cruelly because he poorly. I don't want to go into too much, poorly, very poorly and with no respect, I just give me a chance. But Mki found acceptance and fulfillment as a valued employee at spectrum. One of the largest employers of neuro diverse people in the state, Nicole Ferrara, co founded the company to give her autistic son, Adam and others like him job opportunities. There's just an incredible void in employment opportunities for individuals with autism. And we wanted to make a difference the company's annual revenue, a whopping $5 million a year. They take pride in their work spectrum design. Ceo Patrick Barley says as word spread that the printing pressing and embroidery were all done by workers on the spectrum. The company's clientele soared, their mind is just blown and you see them kind of change their maybe misconceptions around the capabilities of people with disabilities. Thomas Duffy joined the company five months ago and loves it. This might be one of my favorite jobs I had mki hopes more businesses will adopt spectrum's social mission of inclusion. You know, give us a shot. You'll be pleasantly surprised. You can't help but smile at that one. Well, spectrum's reach is wide. They've also got a sister organization called Spectrum suds. It's a boutique laundromat that helps employ people on the spectrum too and now is perfect timing for today's. Did you know, did you know that April marks Autism Awareness Month? Well, many organizations worldwide help provide people with autism resources they can use to flourish. Go ahead and check out your screen. That's today's did you know at just 12 and nine years old, one pair of sisters are giving back to their community in a big way too. They're putting smiles on the faces of Children with cancer by gifting them something special and hand made with love. Take a look. My grandma and my great grandma both died of pancreatic cancer and it really, it's not fair. Gabby and Serena Vernoff are sisters who turned a family heartbreak into a humanitarian effort. We were really upset and we're like, we're not alone. There are millions of other families and we're like, if we can brighten up someone's day that may as well help them and bring joy to that green. These talented sisters are making and donating bracelets to organizations and hospitals in the US and Israel for Children with cancer through their company, Glow for kids for every bracelet, they sell three bracelets are donated. I love making bracelets. And with this, with this project, I could make as many as I want. And I don't have to just make it for me. I could make it for other people to, but in the day. So that makes me happy. Cancer walks. Cancer research has always been in our family. So grandma is probably extremely proud, you know, she, she's part of my everyday my mom being a pediatrician and being and taking care of kids all her life. She was a dedicated doctor, love doctor and a master of her, of her profession. She, she I guarantee you she's smiling right now knowing what her grandchildren are doing and working on her legacy. Well, speaking of helping hands, let's head on over to Connecticut now where a viral social media moment saved one rescue dog's life. Sometimes all it takes for an overlooked dog to get some much deserved love is a little social media fame. Leo has been with Bridgeport Animal Rescue crew for three years during which he's been ignored by every potential adopter until last week. That's when bark made a last ditch effort on Facebook writing after three excruciating years of begging and pleading, this dog has remained homeless without a family. We have tried everything we spared no effort, cost or amount of time. But after three years, Leo has become so depressed living this way that we've been advised it might be best to put him at rest. Yes, that means euthanasia. Leo is a fantastic dog. He loves kids, he loves, he loves tennis balls, he loves to play outside. He's a great dog, but here's the issue. He's what we call the trifecta Bark co founder Jocelyn Baum says that means Leo has all black fur is a pit bull and cannot be around other dogs. Not a single person has wanted to bring him home, but then Bark's post about Leo went viral within a day. It was shared 23,000 times and applications poured in even from outside the country. We see so many un unfortunate things when we are dealing with animal rescue and how these poor voiceless uh beings are treated and, and handled. Um And so when we do a post and it reaches and it, you know, speaks to the heart of so many people. It's just, it's it gives us new hope, right? So um we're just grateful says Leo is no longer at risk for being put down. Bark has narrowed the applications to two families in the tri state and is working to determine who will be the best match for him. We are so hopeful that this will be, this is his chance. This is it for him. We are so hopeful. Hopeful, Leo's rescue journey will end as a happy tale. Well, if you're on the hunt for a furry companion bark has got lots more pups looking for loving homes too. Here's one story for you. Now that shines a spotlight on a bakery with a name that's hard to forget. Life is rough and it ain't just your typical bakery, but one that specializes in creating all natural treats for your pup and their products are found in stores nationwide. We've got your behind the scenes. Look at how those treats are made and the reviews are five out of five paws. This batch is a mixture of grains, oat flour, eggs, peanut butter, and banana puree. Then we use vitamin E and vitamin C as a natural preservative. Kimberly Loper is the co owner of the pet supply store Harbor Pet and life is gruff. A dog treat bakery. Kim opened her dog treat business in 2010. He was like my heart. He really, uh, he got me through a lot of rough times. The treats were created for Trooper. Her beloved black lab, horrible allergies. Cancer just riddled with a lot of diseases and just wanted to make a healthier treat for him. Now, she's making tails wag across the country. She's in the bakery at least three days a week making these bone shaped treats with her business partner, Andrew. It's fun for me. It's different. I'm always, I'm working landscaping all the time. So I'll come in here. It's all the treats are handmade and baked in small batches free of preservatives, salt and sugar. They even have wheat and gluten free options. This one is all quinoa. Um A little bit of buckwheat flour from chicken to sweet potato and honey flavors. The Growler's dog bones became an instant best seller. Combination of like barley oats wheat. That's the leftover mixture. After brewing beer, Kim and Andrew have partnered with six local breweries and one distillery for their product. They sell their treats online. All the packing and shipping happens right here on Long Island. Well, while those bakers dish out treats to keep your furry friends happy. One couple out of Westchester lended a helping hand to keep one furry friend alive and it was all caught on camera. Take a look at that quite the heroic rescue caught on camera for you there, Westchester native Sandra Martini and her boyfriend were taking a drive when they suddenly noticed a little deer in distress. You can see there the deer was stuck in a fence and unable to get out while Sandra's boyfriend to the rescue, he used a tool to push the bars on the fence apart and get the deer out unharmed.
