On A Positive Note: Connecticut Teen Becomes National Boxing Champion

My parents has been a great role model. 17 year old Brianna Allers of Hampden, surrounded by her family. I just had to Fox saying today it was a mind blowing experience winning the USA boxing National Junior Olympics in Lubbock Texas last week. That's her in the red. Putting the young champ firmly on track to go to the Olympic trials in Lafayette, Louisiana in December to try and win a spot on the USA amateur travel team which goes all over the world that could then position Brianna to be selected for the USA Olympic boxing team. So she could potentially compete in the 2024 Olympic Games. Now, can you bring me back to that moment in West Texas? When you realized that you had been crowned the national champion? I felt really accomplished. I say really proud. I was happy that I mean, my parents proud, my grandfather proud. Um It was just like a really, really good heartwarming moment. Really? I started crying. I started yelling, I started screaming. I needed a moment. I had to pinch myself, to be honest, I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming for me as a coach, it made me say that my job was done. It's been here at the Chick Rosnick Boxing Club in Stratford where coach Martin Chisholm has been training Brianna for years, teaching the young champ all the magic moves she needed to come this far. When did you realize that you had something really special about two years ago? On my first national, the young fighter just found out today, her path will soon put her in what some call the world's biggest boxing ring. The US Capitol where she'll soon be honored by top members of Congress Senator Richard Blumenthal making the invitation but not just for Brianna's fancy footwork in the ring. The teen herself says she used to be bullied. She's also a passionate articulate advocate against bullying. What do you think about this big trip to DC? Honestly, it seems unreal. I want all kids who are being bullied to know that it's ok, you'll get through it and never give up. I feel confident in saying that nobody's bullying you now. Yes, he is the junior national champion of all states. A young champ fighting in the ring and out an all around winner. No doubt, whatever goals I accomplish throughout my life. I just want to stay the same person, same kind hearted person and be a role model to others.
