On A Positive Note: Tom Hanks Gifts Rare Typewriter to NJ Collector

In I M Andrew's yard. There's this trailer he used to use for a now defunct food catering business these days. It's a workshop that helps people feed their souls, specifically the romantics of the world who like to cook up poems and letters with the click and clack of an old typewriter. Have we technologically moved past them? Sure. But we haven't moved past them right here. And I think there's something really new to that. The trailer is the base for Iron Fox typewriters. The company M Andrew started five years ago, buying, selling, refurbishing, customizing and repairing typewriters for the many people out there who still love the irreplaceable sound and feel not only under the antiques, but, you know, the idea is that they're fully functional as well. You know, 40 50 years from now, no one is going to be like, this is my first iphone and grandson. I want to give it to you. M Andrew uses an antique typewriter himself for journaling and other writings and keeps a small collection of about 10 or so like this 1929 royal portable is, oh, yeah, I know this one's never leaving me. I'll do my own, you know, form of poetry or I'll do journaling or even, I'll just write letters or this 1920 s Corona three portable I'm, I'm envisioning like reporters covering the Lindbergh trial using, uh most certainly. Yes, writer. Then last month out of the blue M Andrew got an email from someone claiming to be the assistant to actor Tom Hanks. Also an award typewriter collector asking for M Andrew's mailing address. He replied and a few days later, a gift from Tom Hanks arrived this 1934 Underwood signed by the actor himself. I'm still kind of in shock in the box. There was a letter from Hanks typed. Of course, you're taking off my shelves and out in the greater world. On the other hand, you're giving me more space and less. On the third hand, question mark, you just may be giving this miracle of a machine, a fuller newer life of use. So from his trailer in Lacey Township, a New Jersey typewriter repairman has formed a bond with a world famous actor. It seems Tom Hanks understands the point of what mcandrew is doing out here, not collecting these things, but putting them to work again, writing with a purpose and feeling that somehow seems to have more um when you're working with ink and metal and no delete button.
