I just knew we had to work together, stay home, watch as these teenage lifeguards saved the life of one elderly man. Plus how this young one is using his start up to improve the lives of others over on Long Island. Check me, I think we just need to uh learn about the past and then maybe, then we can all take a step in the right direction. How he's using the game of chess as a means to end hate crimes today. We are kicking off this episode with a story that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. An elderly man has been blessed with seeing another day and it all to three teenage life guards who work together to save the man's life. Our crews got a chance to sit down with those girls who made the save take a look, a scary moment, but we're trained to do this so we're prepared to do this. Life guards, Chandler Manning, Samantha Muller and Maggie Higgins sprang into action. Sunday afternoon after learning an elderly man was unresponsive in the men's locker room at Phelps Lane Pool in North Babylon. I just knew we had to work together. Stay calm. A good Samaritan was trying to perform CPR but Manning says she knew more needed to be done. So she ran to the first aid room and grabbed the A Ed. We shared three jobs and doing CPR ventilations on the man and using the A Ed. And after a few rounds and the use of the A Ed, we got a normal rhythm back and the man was breathing. We rolled him on his side and we waited for, to arrive at pads to bare skin. Manning who was also a physical education teacher at North Babylon and teaches CPR says Sunday's emergency was the first time she'd even taken the A Ed at the pool off the wall. I've been here 15 summers and we never even had to look in the direction of the Higgins who's also an art teacher in Farmingdale says she'd never even performed CPR before. I was in shock and being in a leadership position, I knew that myself, Sam and Chandler, we had to do something. We couldn't wait for someone else to get here or step up Muller who's also a nursing student at Malloy has been a lifeguard for three years and says she can almost hardly believe what happened. I was definitely in shell shock like that just happened. Like never think you're going to be in a situation like that with the pool closing for the season. The lifeguards say they are grateful to end on a positive note and hope to see the man they saved back at the pool next summer. Oh my goodness. He comes here a lot with his grandchildren. We got to do everything we can regardless of what it looks like or what we think is going to happen. We tried our best and our best work. Yes, it absolutely works. Thank goodness. Now, not to worry, the lifeguards tell us that the man they save is now recovering from cardiac arrest and a head injury in the comfort of his own home. They want to urge viewers to use this as a friendly suggestion to take CPR class and learn to use an A ed. You could be the reason someone sees another day. Well, now we are heading over to New Jersey for another story all about young ones doing incredible things. So they say Bergen County, New Jersey is one of the places you're most likely to see high end luxury performance cars like Lamborghinis on the road. Well, the 13 year old superstar in our next story, Tyler Poon tells us he is of course a big fan of the cars but that he's also found the pricey cars might also mean money in his own pocket. Let me introduce you to one of the garden state's youngest entrepreneurs today, I'm taking my grimy news van with its pine Barons pine cone on the dashboard. Lots of Jersey shore beach sand and layers of hard New Jersey Highway living gunk on every surface to maybe be the perfect person for the job of sprucing it up. Tyler Poon owner and operator of new generation car cleaning. If he looks a bit young to be a business owner. Yeah, he's 13. What your friends say about this whole thing. A lot of them want to join my business, but I don't need help for now. Tyler started his cleaning and detailing business focusing on high end cars amid the pandemic. His mom said it helped overcome the isolation and stagnation of lockdown. So I started with the $4 loan for my mom in her office parking lot and I bought some pla from the dollar tree because that's where she is. It soon grew into a thriving company. He's now the youngest member of the Fort Lee Chamber of Commerce and was invited to speak last month at the Aspire conference in New York. That's a traveling conference for entrepreneurs. I like being able to see and touch the expensive cars like the super cars, the high end luxury cars. Um I also like seeing crazy transformation when I got there. He was working on a car belonging to a very important client. His mom. Any extra pressure because it's mom's car. Yes, regardless of the customer, his diligence and elbow grease was something to behold. I was a little afraid my van might be the worst case he's ever seen. No, no, we do here. You've seen worse. I didn't want to take his whole day. So we settled on just the driver seat, which was a disgusting mess in which he restored to almost knew the before and after photo even made his Instagram page. Now the seat doesn't match the rest of the van and Tyler's not alone. Preteen SJ Stewart, another New Jersey native has taken on quite the dirty job, but hey, someone's got to do it. Here's more on a very necessary and maybe not so glamorous business created by that 11 year old himself. Hi guys. So there we go. 13. This is one of 13. Wow. Yes. Check that out SJ is indeed. Not afraid to get dirty. He started the Jersey boys trash can cleaning business that pre teen works to clean up grimy trash cans belonging to people around his community. But the best part with the money he earned SJ bought backpacks to give away two kids for the new school year and get this. He gave away 29 in all. Talk about a kid who doesn't mind getting dirty and a kid with a heart of gold. Now that is what on a positive note is all about? Love it. Well, you know, us millennials and gen Z too can sometimes get a bad rep. Well, listen, here for kids these days, it's not just video games and Tik Tok, some kids have a 3d printer in their house that they use to benefit others building and creating. That's the hobby of one young man over in New Jersey who's just been honored by a local fire department. Yes, you are looking at Matteo Pier that preteen was recently honored at the fire department for his Eagle scout project. Mateo built a turnout gear drying rack. You can see it there on your screen while once firefighters return to the firehouse from a call, they're often drenched in water now. And thanks to Matteo, they can hang their equipment on this. Well, a big congrats to Matteo. He's now officially an Eagle Scout following his creation and donation of this drying rack. Take a listen, the firehouse actually asked for it and they had plans for the Eagle Scout project and I just enjoy building stuff like this. So this fits perfectly for me. And it was really fun because I got to see it from the beginning to the end. And I'm glad it's getting put to use. Mateo tells us it took a couple of months for the equipment to arrive and for approvals to go through. But once he got the ok, he built the rock in just four days. Look at that, using his passions and interests to better the lives of others. Just wonderful. Well, we are keeping the stories of young ones doing amazing things coming here on a positive note today over on Long Island, little ones are raising money for a good cause all by putting their chest skills to the test. Michael Lee organized a chess tournament at the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center in Glen Cove. The brave middle schooler tells us he's passionate about the history of the Holocaust and wanted to do something aimed at putting an end to when COVID was at its high. You saw a lot of um anti Asian like stop Asian hate, I think uh that's not directed specifically towards me, but I think we just need to uh learn about the past and then maybe, then we can all take a step in the right direction. OK. Now, you know what that sound means. It's time for today's. Did you know, did you know that the youngest chess grand master in the world is only 14 years old Avi Manu m is a New Jersey native who recently took home the trophy as the winner of the US junior chess championship. And that victory qualified him for the US championship. Coming up soon, Avi Manu has been playing chess since he was just a toddler and a couple of years ago, he became the youngest grand master in history. Well, checkmate, his future is looking bright and that Ladies and Gents is today's did you know? And now it's time for one of my favorite parts of our episode. Here's your one good thing.
