On the Scene: Visiting an Amazon Warehouse Ahead of Prime Day

And good morning, everyone. Welcome back to need to know. I'm all right and prime day. Wait, wait. Do you have anything in mind did you want to buy? Uh I've seen it like so many like apple products and all these other things that are up the air pods. Ok. So Amazon prime day kicks off today, the online retailers biggest sale event of the year to give us more perspective on the two day event. Our very own senior reporter Michelle Castillo is on the scene at an Amazon warehouse with more Michelle. I see some activity behind you. What's going on. So yes, I'm here at the Melville New York same day, Amazon warehouse where orders come in and ship out the same day. And of course, it's prime day. I'm also here with Katie Condon. She's the head of field communications. So Katie today is prime day. Tomorrow is prime day is the best deal to get out there. Really tech deals right now. Oh, yeah, our device deals are up to 75% off. We have a fire TV. Our echo pop lots of great opportunities to invest in new electronics for your house. Or your dorm room depending on what you're looking for. We also have great deals on many projectors as well. So really opportunities are everywhere for prime day this year. Now, I know you guys started out some deals early and right now you're rolling them out by the minute. Is there any tips on how you can score the best deal? Even if you're looking for stuff? That's not even tech related. Great question. So a lot of opportunity sits with just go for what your products are that, that are your favorite. Stick them in your cart. Check back often you can actually ask Alexa to remind you when something on your wish list is hitting a lightning deal during the day all day long. We have new deals hitting every couple of hours. So it's one of those opportunities to just check back, often hit refresh and look for ways in which you can use that curated deals on your page, which looks at what you've already looked at and then compare it to other deals that are happening across the site. Now, outside of prime day, do you have any other tips on how you can save money on Amazon so many ways. So importantly, we have a program called Amazon student and it gives a great discount from an Amazon prime perspective. So whether that's a grub hub, free delivery or 10% off of flights, there's just a great opportunity to use different ways in which we've got prime to help people get the latest deals that they need to help support their lifestyle. I mentioned that we're at a same day facility. If you're watching out there, you might see there's some people working behind me. Can you describe how this is a little different from a typical Amazon warehouse? Absolutely. So this is a sub same day facility which means what you see behind us is our teams are picking and packing and what they're doing right now is once you hit, click, that product is going to hit and go right into the shelf over here and from there, it'll come right over here where there's an opportunity for it to get packed into either a box or a bag and then shipped right out to the trucks. So what that means is you can get that product within the day and sometimes within two hours and how fast, how many orders are going to process through here approximately today? Oh, that's a great question. Sometimes. It really depends, we can see over hundreds of thousands or since this is a sub safe day facility, we could see anywhere in the neighborhood of, you know, 50 to 60,000. It really depends on what the demand looks like and what products we have here. But the goal is that for these facilities that we have the products that our customers like in this geography and making sure that we can get it to them as fast as possible. Now, Senator Bernie Sanders did raise an inquiry about the safety of Amazon workers. What is Amazon's response and what are you doing to ensure worker safety at this time? Well, first of all, we definitely disagree with Senator Sanders email or his letter, but importantly, safety is always something that we think about. We don't go to bed thinking about it. We wake up thinking about it. We've got signs everywhere working with our teams to make sure that we're investing in the right appropriate measures for our teams. And so we have over 8000 global safety professionals. We've invested over a billion dollars in safety measures at the end of the day time and investment and the opportunity to continue towards optimal improvement over time is the best way in which we can invest in our people and we'll continue to do that. Now, back to prime day, I have my eye on a couple of things. What are your top three wish list things for you that you're going to pick up today? Oh, I have a huge cart right now. One that like there should be about a 20% discount on a three part product series for that. I also have two Children at home. So Barbie and Lego products are 30% off. So those are also sitting in my cart and definitely the bows, no caning headphones, those are up to 40% off. So think about ways in which you can save hundreds of dollars. That's it right there. It was about $60. Also 75% off. You're looking at about $30 now, if you are interested, about 50% off. Now. This TV, right here is the Fire Series Fire TV, two series. It's an in by only deal. It was 250 dollars. It's now about $190. And of course, there's other products outside the Amazon family in the tech category that are also on sale. The Bo quiet comfort, bluetooth, wireless noise, canceling headphones, which I'm pretty into 30% off. Right now. You've got the Nebula Anchor capsule three laser mini projector, which is a huge popular thing. Think about all the summer viewing you can do with this projector. It's about 25% off at this time. I don't have the time to build them, but this Star Wars one is pretty great. I've seen this been really popular. This is also on sale at this time. It's usually about $140. It's going for about $98 at the time. I think this is a deal. I'm really excited about this. One. Of course, this is also I'm a huge fan of my. You can get both of these for about, I think about 40% off. It's I'm trying to do a quick back of the napkin math right now. Usually about 665 $66 right now. It's only 550. This is a game changer if you're doing a lot of at home cooking, which I know a lot of you are because it does definitely save money at this time, but you get a perfect sear. I'm really into this.
