The plastic that accumulates in our seas and on our beaches is a global crisis. Billions of pounds of plastic make up about 40% of the world ocean surfaces, thousands of sea birds and sea turtles, seals and other marine mammals are killed each year after ingesting plastic or getting entangled plastic is expected to outweigh all the fish in the sea by 2050 unless change starts to be made. And now one company is taking action. Meet the waist shark, the world's first autonomous aquatic drone that's swallows pollutant materials before reaching the ocean, plastic waste is much more difficult to collect and break down once entering the ocean, developed by a dutch company named rand Marine. The drone is automated zero emissions easy to use and harmless to the environment. The aquatic four ft long tech is inspired by the whale shark, which swims with its mouth wide open to capture prey, but instead of prey, Drone captures up to 162 liters of garbage. Here's how it works. It glides through the water quietly capturing trash in a tray between its two pontoons. Once the drone is filled with trash, it steered back to the edge of the water where the tray can be easily removed and emptied into a larger receptacle. The waste shark is just one of many new devices being used to reduce the ocean plastic problem.
