One Good Thing: One-Eared Rescue Dog Paints Way to New Home

and time for one good thing meet Van Gogh. He's a seven year old Pitbull Pitbull Mix who lost his left ear after being used as a bait dog in a dog fighting ring in north Carolina Jacqueline Gardner, the founder and president of a Connecticut nonprofit called Happily Forever After a rescue, saw a photo of Van Gogh on social media, he was bleeding and severely injured wearing a cone. She knew right away. She had to take him in neighbor, shared that before he was used as a bait in a dog fighting ring. He was a stray dog. Van Gogh doesn't do well around other dogs because of his past, but he loves humans. She said, quote, Van Gogh should have every reason not to trust humans, but he loves people just because a dog has been a part of that, life doesn't make them a bad dog and quote, well several months went by and still nobody adopted Van Gogh. So Gardner took on a more more creative approach to get people's attention inspired after his name. She wanted Van Gogh the pup to recreate Van Gogh, the artist's famous painting, The Starry Night. The idea was to provide it as a gift for the dogs, future adopter. Here's how she did it. She placed blobs of paint on a canvas, sealed it into a plastic bag and smeared a thick coat of peanut butter on the plastic. Well, as expected, Van Gogh quickly got to work licking off the treat while creating some beautiful art. Look at your screen. This is pretty impressive. Van Gogh had so much fun during this activity that the pair ended up creating an entire art gallery showcasing it at a volunteers home and on social media, word spread quickly and people started buying the pups paintings and even commissioning pieces. While his new side hustle as an artist began to take off, something even better happened. He was officially adopted by another volunteer Jessica. Star Wits. Star Wits now works with a positive reinforcement trainer to help Van Gogh feel less anxious around other dogs. As for his paintings, Van Gogh has no plans to retire anytime soon. All profits generated will go towards the nonprofit that took him in and shine the light on his talents. Star Wits hopes his story will inspire others to offer animals a second chance in life.
