A group of students raised over $30,000 to purchase a car for a beloved teacher who commutes four hours to school by scooter.

When a group of students heard that one of their favorite teachers commutes almost four hours to school by scooter, they knew that they wanted to help. The students raised over $30,000 to purchase a car, insurance and gas money for their teacher to make him feel as special as he makes them feel.

we know the world can be tough sometimes with what seems like endless mind numbing news. So to take a break, we'd like to tell you about one good thing happening in the world today on Cheddars news wrap. Today's good thing is highlighting one math teacher who got a special surprise from his students, Julio. Castro is a math teacher at the modern Orthodox jewish campus of ula Boys High School. Castro lives in the santa Clarita area valley, nowhere near the school. Each day he spends about four hours commuting to work. He doesn't have a car. He relies on his scooter and the bus. He gets about 4:30 a.m. Every weekday gets home around 9:30 p.m. Which makes taking care of his three Children a bit of a challenge. But despite the difficulties. Castro loves his job and his students. He said, quote, you'll open the door for me. They accepted me as a family member. His students recognize how above and beyond. Castro goes for him. One student, his name is Joshua, guaran dash said, quote, he'll skip his lunch break to help the stew student and stay after school. He also helps students who aren't in his classes. That student caught a glimpse of Castro's computer. One day he noticed his teacher was searching for cars online. Anything he could drive in the $1000 price range, so guaran dash and other students, it's something pretty remarkable for Castro. They raised $30,000 over the summer. Getting donations from various organizations like Galpin motors and the nonprofit to change reaction. They used the money to buy the Carlos, math teacher, a Mazda hatchback. This money covers a year of insurance and gas to, to reveal the surprise the school put on a fake faculty appreciation assembly, which in reality was all a setup for Castro because of his insane commute. He showed up late to the assembly where everybody was gathered around waiting for him with confetti cannons, cheers and of course his brand new car, His student said, quote, we've been taught certain values like empathy and to treat your fellow person as you'd want to be treated. Mr. Castro is the embodiment of that with this car with this new opportunity, he's only going to find more and more ways to help other people around him. I love this story.
