The Paley Center for Media will be closing down 57th Street in Manhattan for PaleyWKND, which is an immersive experience pertaining to all things media. Mercedes Anderson, the director of communication for The Paley Center for Media, joined Cheddar News to discuss the festival which she referred to as "a salute to the media industry in New York."

if you are a fan of some good stuff for the weekend, that's for all ages, then you don't want to miss this event, the Paley Center for media hosting Paley weekend, that's an immersive event with interactive experiences and immersive attractions all from the exciting world of media, sports, gaming and entertainment and it's kicking all off right here in new york city on september the 30th. So joining us now to discuss this Mercedes Anderson director of communications over at the Paley Center for Media Mercedes. Such a pleasure to have you here. Thanks so much for joining us. This is obviously a huge event for the city. Let's talk about the inspiration behind this year's event baker. It's a pleasure to be here. Thank you so much. This is really a salute to the media industry here in new york. So Paley Weekend as you said, is taking place this weekend october 1st and second and it's a partnership with new york and over two dozen media partners, iconic brands are gonna be joining us again, We're closing down 52nd street for basic what what what we're calling the ultimate media, sports, gaming and entertainment festival, so it's very exciting. It's free and open to the public. Um We, you're gonna those, every everyone is welcome. It's free as we said, but we do suggest advanced registration. Um and you can do that at Haley weekend dot org. Um This is, this is sure to be fun for everyone for adults and kids alike. Um and it's not, it's, you know, we're gonna have over 20/20 activations on the street, but there's also exhibitions going on inside the Paley Museum itself which is on 52nd Street, as many people are familiar. And the sort of the showcase exhibit, this is very exciting are the four trophies, the four sports trophies, the Lombardi trophy, the just all four trophies are going to be there and you can take photos, you could, you know, you could just enjoy just being in the proximity of so we're very excited. Yeah and there's a lot of amazing brands and companies that are a part of it, Major League Baseball marvel mattel, the NFL, our parent company Altice also taking part of this as well, ESPN so many amazing exhibition or exhibits and activations as you mentioned. But what are you most excited for for attendees to experience here? You know what when you have, you know, I think it's just the impact of the entire event, right? It's very difficult to pick because you've got something for everyone, you know at at Paley Weekend um For those who are for those who come to pick really or are drawn to new york for, you know, it's it's it's it's television, it's media, there's screenings that are taking place um has grown Nickelodeon has screenings for kids. Um We have the we've got we've got the A. M. C. Is premiering interview with the Vampire and the entire cast is going to be there on saturday afternoon, so if you're a fan, you're gonna want to do that, you can take some photos. Um, and uh, and then of course you've got, you know, marvel, you mentioned them, you know, superhero Spiderman Captain America who doesn't love them. And then for spa sports fans, there's going to be a gridiron on on 52nd street, they're gonna be batting cages and there's going to be, we're going to have john Starks and harper stopped by the NBA Junior Clinic, the W. N. B. A. Is going to be there as well, ESPN and the special olympics, it's, you know, it's difficult to choose just one. I think what's really amazing about this is that it is in homage, it is a salute to new york as a media capital of the world. NBC and Bloomberg are going to have a pop up studios for aspiring anchors, which I think the kids will really enjoy. Um, and you know, and as I said, sports fans are gonna be able to see, you know, those great trophies. Um there are a number of when the paley museum itself is being transformed. So as you know, it's sort of, this is the, this is, you know, we are the keepers of television and the tradition and, and, and, and media right? Because you know, the, the Paley Museum, which was once known as the museum for television is now the paley museum and is overseen by the Paley Center for media because media is evolving because we need, it's evolving at such a rapid pace that we need to be engaging with it. We need to be preserving it and we need to be showcasing it the way we are this. Yeah, yeah. Mercedes so true. And by the way there's gonna be some VR metaverse experiences as well.
