While the COVID-19 pandemic brought a devastating impact to several people around the world, it did bring one silver lining: the rise of new black-owned businesses. According to the Kauffman Foundation and the Los Angeles Times, 2020 saw a record number of black-led startups. One Atlanta mom who got laid off during the pandemic says this gave her the opportunity to go back into what she loves doing the most: designing.
