‘Party Down’ Cast Talks Bringing Back the Starz Comedy

Both of your careers are in very different places since season one. Very successful and he's not, oh, you mean in real life? So I mean I want to know why is now the perfect time for this revival. Oh, I don't know why. I'm just glad we're doing it because it felt like the revival should have been right after season two. So just basically a pickup for season three. Exactly. So what happened though is that we have been trying to do, we were gonna do a movie, we were and then we were gonna do the television show and then we get our hopes up and then our hopes would be dashed and this time it happened. So I don't know why, but it is now is the time the season for parties. You're both obviously new members to the party down cruise. So I'm wondering for either of you, were you familiar with the series? Did you watch it before signing up for this role? I was familiar with the series. I didn't watch it because I was a child when it was flex. Yeah, it's kind of crazy to think about. It was only 20 episodes but clearly had such an impact with fans. So ken why do you think it is that people love this series and these characters so much. I think the, I think the characters, it's fun to watch people so suffer on a tv show on a tv show and I think that that people can relate to like the characters in that show and so um and I think it was just really just wonderful chemistry between the cast that um that was infectious and so I think that it's fun to watch people, it comes through the screen, it's fun to watch people, um you know, having fun and then, you know, the scripts by john m baum were pretty awesome, top notch, the scripts were amazing, we would all come in and we were prepared to, you know, bring the scripts to life, but also like if somebody went off, you know, on a tangent, like, you know, uh improving something, it would just set up a domino effect and you're like, oh no, I got, I got to keep up with everybody, it was an absolute class Zoe, I also want to ask you were a cocktail waitress on your way to becoming an actress, I'm sure everyone's asking you about this all day, but how did that experience kind of informed this character and stepping into this role, remind you of that period in your career, totally. Yeah, I worked at Bar Marmont for 4.5 years right out of grad school and shooting season three has, has been a cathartic, but also very triggering experience. Um yeah, it's, it's, it's um it was a wild time too, I mean, I think working in the service industry is humbling as, as the show illustrates um and it all feels insane things happen on the show, but insane things happen in the restaurant business and so it's, it all feels very realistic to me jane. I do want to ask you because it's kind of the central question of the show, How long do you chase a dream? Oh, you know what? It's a tough, tough question. It's you you would think outside looking in, well, you know, it's 2030 years and you still haven't gotten your big break, you know, maybe go to Plan B, but dreams are we wrapped so much into our dreams, our identity and our hopes and and you know, you don't you don't want to pull the rug out from from under somebody. But um I think like somebody like Adam's character is a little more wise, a little more of a realist. But I think everybody else is still, you know, reaching for the stars and they keep getting slapped down. And I think that's also why people love watching this show, because you know, not everybody has, most people don't have their dreams come true, it's just a fact of life. And so it's kind of fun to laugh with them while they are trying to make their dreams come true Well, and one of the creators said the reason why this made sense during the pandemic is because people are reassessing their dreams and their priorities. So I'm wondering, is there still a dream that you want to pursue, even though in this era of your career you've achieved so much. No, there are no more dreams really aren't. I love my little life. In fact, what's happened is from the pandemic is that kind of, the road has gotten narrower and I'm very happy in the local nous of my life. I live in a little town and I have neighbors that I've gotten to know, which isn't really a weird thing in this day and age, but the pandemic kind of brought everything home and um, I don't have any dreams and really happy just to be right here with you and with you and these gentlemen at the monitors, that that is such a wonderful a new approach to life for me, the pandemic just made me feel like I was two years behind schedule. And so I feel like I'm running racing even faster to try to catch up and do the things that I missed out on, which is maddening.
