One of the four major championships in men's professional golf tees off on Thursday.  The 2022 PGA championship will be played at the Southern Hills country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  The annual golf tournament will feature some of the world's best golfers, including Tiger Woods and the 2022 Masters Tournament winner, Scottie Scheffler; however, one notable golf legend will not be participating.  Phil Mickelson has withdrawn from this year's PGA championship after winning the tournament last year to become golf's oldest major champion. I know you actually join me back in february to talk about Mickelson issuing that apology after he faced backlash about comments that he made in support of a golf tour backed by Saudi Arabia. And he has since taken that extended hiatus from golf, remind us what happened and when we might expect to see Phil play again, it's certainly a stunning downfall. He spent nearly 30 years as a hero and went to a pariah in just a few months Phil has taken issue with the PGA tour and the ownership of the players media writes the term he used was obnoxious greed. So he gambled that flirting with the super golf league would punish the PGA in your, he knew where the money was coming from, the Saudi government's human rights record, but he was willing to overlook all that. There was some question over whether he had been suspended by the PGA Tour, but the PGA championship is not actually run by the tour but by the PGA of America. So any discipline wouldn't actually applied. If he showed up, there would be a media circus, he would be asked about the super golf league constantly and he was not ready and he's just not ready for that type of scrutiny. I think the next question is whether he showed up at the U. S. Open next month, it's the only major he's missing for the career Grand slam as he misses that. There's a strong possibility we don't see fill for the rest of the year. Okay, well we do know that the tour is set to kick off this thursday. So it's certainly a big moment ahead for us in the world of golf. What can we expect from the championship, this one in Tulsa. Oh there's a The tournament was supposed to be held at the Trump's course, but they moved into the Southern Hills in Tulsa where Tiger Woods won in 2007. Tiger's back, he's certainly hitting it good. He showed to himself as much as anybody at the Masters that he can survive 72 holes. His planning was really his downfall at Augusta and now his swing, it's unlikely that he would win, but he's defied the odds before the last time the tournament was here, he shot 63 so it could definitely be a threat. Then there's Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy Jordan Jordan's beef fact, Rory and Jordan and Tiger are all playing together in the first two rounds of that golf rolled wall of their eyes on that grouping starting from thursday. Well what's interesting is that Tiger says he feels a lot stronger since playing in the Masters and I think a lot of people pretty impressed actually by his initial performance in the Masters of course after that tragic accident, I guess just about a year ago at this point, what are you expecting from Tiger Woods? You think you could actually win? This? Certainly, certainly a threat. It's it's unlikely that he would win, but he he showed that he could He could play 72 holes walking the course. It was a problem for him, but he managed to overcome it. He has an indomitable will, he won a major championship and a broken leg. So I used to find the odds it's unlikely to win, but it could definitely be a threat on the weekend. Okay, well Scottie Scheffler coming off a major win at the Masters. That was fun to see do you think he can bring home another one this weekend? There's really nothing not to like about Scheffler, He's as cool as can be, he has a good foundation around him, his family, his wife said he spent the week after the Masters cleaning up his backyard. He's a really down to earth humble person, He's not going to let the added pressure that comes with the Masters with being number one in the world get to him. He loves his course he won here in college. He reportedly shot 64 in the practice round, But winning two majors in one year. It's pretty difficult to win back to back.
