In the wake of high profile ransomware attacks including the Colonial Pipeline hack, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ 12th District) joined Cheddar to talk about the state of U.S. cybersecurity. "I think this whole area of cybersecurity has been kind of loosey-goosey under the Republican administration, under Donald Trump," said Watson Coleman. She added that the most important thing right now is being proactive to protect American systems, and should bad actors infiltrate networks, they must be caught and met with strict consequences. Noting that many cyberattacks originate from outside U.S. borders, Watson Coleman stated that there has to be a process in place to connect with leaders of those countries so they can "root out this kind of criminal activity."
