The House of Representatives has signed off on legislation that would establish an investigative commission on the January 6 Capitol insurrection. The bill, now with the Senate, has been strongly opposed by GOP officials including Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, despite 35 Republican House members breaking ranks and voting to approve. Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass 2nd District) told Cheddar that the GOP has to "do the right thing," and if the bill falls flat in the Senate, there has to be another path to officially document what occurred at the Capitol on January 6. He noted that if the insurrection is simply swept under the rug, "that increases the likelihood that you will see another attack on the capitol."
