A recent new report reveals that Facebook is aware of how toxic Instagram can be to teen girls. According to the Wall Street Journal, Facebook has repeatedly found that its photo-sharing app is harmful to a significant percentage of teenagers. The report also revealed that over the past three years Instagram has had a number of impacts on the mental health of young users. Currently, it is noted that more than 40% of Instagram’s users are 22 years old and younger. In a letter sent to the CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg members of congress are calling for the company to abandon its plans to develop an “Instagram for Kids” platform along with revealing more in-depth details about the internal report. One of the senders of that letter Rep. Lori Trahan, joined Cheddar to discuss more on how she hopes Facebook will step in to address this issue among young social media users.
