Supermarket giant Kroger is reportedly in talks to acquire rival Albertsons in what could be one of the largest grocery mergers to date. A deal could be announced this week, according to CNBC.

Okay, well elsewhere we could be heading towards a major supermarket merger. Kroger reportedly in talks to acquire the grocery chain Albertsons. And if we take a look at these companies both up today, and this is, according to CNBC, a deal could be announced this week, shares of Albertsons soaring 12%, actually halted at one point this morning and Kroger stock up 1.4%. So Albert Sins, which operates under other names like safeway and acme, is more than 2200 supermarkets in 34 states as 290,000 employees. That's a lot of workers and Kroger, we know one of is the larger, of course, of the two company with a market cap of about 32 billion. Albertsons market cap is just about half of that at $15 billion.
