Thanksgiving isn't just synonymous with turkey. Shopping has become a hallmark of the holiday season. Over the course of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, Americans are expected to spend billions. According to the National Retail Federation, retailers make almost 30% of their annual revenue during the time period between Thanksgiving and Christmas. This year they expect American shoppers to spend $682 billion - the highest holiday shopping total in history. On average, each American shopper will spend close to $1,000. Ellen Davis, Senior Vice President of Consumer Insight at the National Retail Federation, discusses the state of the retail industry going into the holiday season.
