 Rian Johnson & Daniel Craig Talk 'Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery'

switching gears, everyone with the most anticipated movies of the year arriving in theaters tomorrow. I can't wait for this glass onion and now he's out mystery, peeling back the layers on a new murder case, good writing. Daniel Craig returns as detective Benoit blanc and he's joined by newcomers, kate Hudson Janelle monae, just about everyone else in Hollywood. That's right. In our west coast correspondent, Asia Celestino sat down with Daniel and writer, director Ryan johnson to talk all about the new movies, Take a look, congrats on the movie. I want to start with you, Daniel, what was it like to jump back into the role of Benoit blanc? Um, immensely joyful. Just, just uh, you know, you make, you make movies and you hope they're a success and you have people go and watch them. But the knives out, knives out proved to be a success and people enjoyed it. And um, so we started having a tentative, but a discussion about making another one and Ryan went off and wrote it and came up with glass onion. So I couldn't, couldn't be happier. Yeah, and I also wanted to talk about Ryan confirming that blanc is queer as an actor, what is your approach and what is your thought process when you make a decision like that? It was very simple. It wasn't such a sort of, it wasn't, it wasn't complicated. We both sort of very organically came to the conclusion and just sort of went, yes, and then moved on, we didn't really sort of dwell on it too much. That's great and Ryan, I want to talk with you about something a little bit different. Uh, you recently spoke with the new yorker about the importance of film, twitter both personally and professionally with this version of twitter, we're experiencing, what do you think for film creatives moving forward? Well, I think that, I mean, I don't think twitter is, is do go on Daniel as the biggest social media affection on the planet should probably be, I find twitter endlessly entertaining. I don't, I think that if you're on twitter because you're trying to advance your career or, or something as, I mean, there are some present professions where it can definitely help. Um, but I, I feel like you don't, as a filmmaker, you should be just making movies. So I think, but I personally just find twitter incredibly entertaining. I've met some wonderful people on there, I've, I've had some great experiences on there. I think as long as it's, I see it as as long as I'm still having fun being on there, I'll stick around and I feel like right now we all feel like we're riding the titanic down into, into the sea, but even that there's an element of, I love it, you're gonna say this fun in that actually is actually gonna drown, what's the worst case scenarios, twitter goes away and that's maybe also the best case scenario, so nothing very bad is going to get it, you know, I had to ask you, especially, it's just so timely given the film for those who see and with an eccentric tech billionaire being at the heart of it. But last question for you both is what was your favorite reaction that you've gotten from audience members, friends to glass onion so far? Daniel starting with just you know, we, we showed it in Toronto, I mean Ron had showed it to some audiences before that, so he had it, he was ahead of the curve but to sit down in Toronto with a couple of 1000 people and show the movie and for them to laugh, it's just that it doesn't get any better than that. And brian, how about you? Because I have to say my screening, everyone was laughing start to finish and I was thinking, I think this comedic tone really sets apart from knives out. Yeah, it's totally, it's very different. I mean that's kind of the object is with each one of these, it's gonna be a different thing tonally and and you know, we make these movies first and foremost as crowd pleasers and they're, they're very much drawn from the whodunit I was growing up watching in the late seventies and early eighties, which were the all star affairs that were just grand entertainments and that's what we're going for. So, I mean exactly what Daniel said to sit in a crowded theater and to feel the energy of the crowd laughing but also gasping and also leaning in and feel them with the movie and feel them just having the time of their lives. That's the whole reason we make these things. And so that's, that's kind of the best you can ever hope for. Oh, that is amazing. It'll be interesting to see who was right, we should make our prediction before. I know who done it. I love that.
