The Daily Show correspondents Roy Wood, Jr and Dulce Sloan joined Cheddar News to talk about the state of election preparation in Georgia ahead of the 2022 midterms. "It's not so much not being able to believe what's happening, but it's how many people choose to believe what they're being fed. And there's a level of division not only in media, but also we're very divided on where we get our information from," Wood said. The pair also addressed what it has been like to watch Georgia slow flip from a red to a blue-leaning state.

and the Daily show has correspondents on the ground covering the nail biting midterm election in Georgia this year with an eye on our democratic system and aerial Hickson got the chance to sit down with Roy Wood Jr and dulce Sloan to get their take on the midterms and how georgians are reacting, take a look. People are activated down here. Like yo georgians, they mail in these ballots like no state I've ever seen before in my life. We asking people are they gonna vote already voted two years ago for this election? Get out my face. Like it's been a really good time uh just being down here. But you know, George is a spot where, you know, they're dealing with gun rights and women's rights and gay rights and C. R. T. Band. So if it's happening in Georgia it's happening somewhere else in America. So I think that's part of the reason why we're here. What has it been like to watch Georgia? A formerly solid red state become more and more of a purple one. Well the interesting thing that people don't know about Georgia is that up until from about Reconstruction until maybe 2000. George has always been confusing because Georgia would always have like a Republican or a democratic governor but but I would always go, I don't know what happened in my mouth just then. Um usually had a Democratic governor but would always vote red in the presidential elections. So it's always been a very confusing state for national politics because it's how is the state. So red when it comes to the president, But the governor is always a democrat and that's where the term dixiecrat comes in. Um, but Georgia went blue in 92 when clinton got elected and then with purple this year for biden. And it's always been a state that has been very interesting socio politically, you know, you have the beginning of the civil rights movement, but now, you know, in the birthplace of martin Luther king. And now we are going back to almost jim crow era laws, um, in the gerrymandering, the taking people off the voter rolls, the um, just disputing people's registration, not allowing people to be given bottles of water while they're waiting in line to vote. Um, so yeah, early voting has been very important here. My mother early voting. My family early votes. Just, you don't deal with the shenanigans and monkeyshines that you can deal with on electronic with all those changes. It's, it's now more than ever to really have an eye on all of these elections and really the importance to vote. Uh, i it really seems like every election cycle, these races get crazier and crazier. Does anything even surprise you even more anymore? No, it doesn't, it doesn't, Herschel walker told y'all, I'm not smart and then he said something about, we need the bad air in china, the good air to move out the bad air? That china said, I was like, what are you, are you talking about the jet stream football player. Um It's not so much not being able to believe what's happening, but it's how many people choose to believe What they're being fed. And you know, there's a level of division, not only in media, but also we're very divided, divided on where we get our information from. And so if you tend to only fish in one pond, you're only gonna get one type of truth or one type one piece of information uh you know, to believe from. And so, you know, we have we have people denying the elections in 22 denying the results of 2020 in 2022. And now we have election deniers that are running for office all across this country. So you have people who are openly saying if I lose, I won't accept the results of the election, but if I win, I'll accept those results. It's a fair and wonderful democracy. It's like what? So there are people already positioned to contest these elections that are already being highly contested.
