It was pop culture Christmas in America's Finest City with 2022 Comic-Con International: San Diego. With the return to an in-person convention, the hype around the event lived up to expectations with some of the most anticipated movie and show announcements making waves. From Marvel Studios and Nickelodeon to Warner Brothers and HBO, there was good news and better reveals for pop-culture junkies.

Marvel Studios

It's been three years since Marvel stopped by San Diego Comic-Con to chop it up with fans so when the studio announced a planned visit for SDCC 2022, buzz immediately swirled about the entertainment powerhouse. The company's hiatus from the event was well worth the wait as Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige came with more than a dozen announcements about the Marvel Cinematic Universe alone. Questions have been answered about the conclusion of the MCU's Phase 4 and the direction of Phase 5 was also revealed.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Since the release of Black Panther in 2018, fans of the film have been itching for a sequel, but after the untimely death of star Chadwick Boseman nearly two years ago, questions about whether a sequel could even be made have swirled. The studio finally unveiled the trailer for the film, which is slated for a November release in theaters. Feige noted that Black Panther and She-Hulk will conclude Phase 4 of the MCU.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law
The next big project for the studio will stream on Disney+ starting August 17. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law stars Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk and Mark Ruffalo reprises his role as Smart Hulk.
Secret Invasion
While the trailer for Secret Invasion was released earlier this month, Feige confirmed that it will kick off Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Nick Fury and Talos will meet again and if you've paid close attention to anything after Captain Marvel, then you know some people in the MCU aren't who they say they are! Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn lead this Disney+ series slated for Spring 2023 release.
Other major announcements include two new Avengers movies, Avengers The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, both slated to be released in 2025. Sam Wilson gets his own film in Captain America: New World Order in May 2024, and Fantastic Four and Daredevil: Born Again hit theaters and Disney+ in 2024 respectively. Blade, starring Mahershala Ali, arrives in theaters next year.

HBO

Thrones
Fans of the hit series Game of Thrones were already anticipating the prequel series House of the Dragon and after SDCC 2022 even more pressure around the franchise is mounting. A new nearly three-minute-long trailer was released and the cast provided some insight into the direction of the plot of the spinoff.

Nickelodeon

Rugrats
It was an eventful weekend for Nickelodeon, which had some major announcements of their own at SDCC 2022. The first, in partnership with Paramount+, was a release of the Season 2 teaser for Rugrats. It looks like Tommy Pickles and the gang are headed to space in 2023. And the success of the series is apparent as Season 3 was also announced at the convention.
Avatar
Prior to Comic-Con, Nickelodeon and Avatar Studios had announced that three separate Avatar films were in the works. This weekend fans of the franchise found out that Avatar Aang and friends will be the focus of the first project. The movie will pick up where Aang and the crew left off after the series concluded in 2008.
