Searching for Conference Tournament Quarterfinal Upsets

the N. C. A. A. Tournament kicks off next week but we're already getting an early dose of March madness with several conference tournaments heating up but some teams have already punched their ticket to the big dance as of this afternoon. 12 teams have won their respective conference tournaments and received an automatic bid as a result. It should be no surprise that we see top ranked Gonzaga on the list while 100 and two year old sister jean will be joining Illinois Chicago as the Ramblers march onto the tourney. But there is plenty of action taking place tonight as well joining us now Bet MGm host Olivia, Harlan Dekker. So Olivia its conference tournament corner final tonight. We might get to see some upsets before we really get into March Madness. So what favorite is most likely to go down tonight? You think? Okay what about U. C. L. A. Washington state? Over U. C. L. A. I know I know a lot of people don't want to stomach that but I think Washington state will be the more motivated team. They basically need to win the pac 12 tournament to go to the big dance. Whereas U. C. L. A. Is pretty comfortable. They should be a four seed wazoo. They're very streaky but they've shown bright moments and have won four straight so you never know by the way Olivia can I just say that I love that you have it on in the background like that's the way we're living life now going forward. It's just always going to be on our TVs in the background. Everyone has to deal. I actually have to tell you Hannah, this is a Turkish and Portugal basketball game right now. My husband's playing right now behind me so I'm trying to keep an eye on it. Oh my gosh. Amazing. Well we're all rooting from him from afar for sure. All right. Let's get into defending champs Baylor. They're favored by 8.5 against Oklahoma tonight. Will they cover tonight? And what's their ceiling going forward? Okay, well these teams played twice in january. So we got a good look at it. Baylor won both by 10 and then later 14 points. So yeah, I like them to cover. I like their backcourt a lot. Adam flagler and James a Kinjo those to kind of share the love. They both average about 13 points per game akin. Joe will also get you about two steals a game and distribute really well. And that bed MGM Baylor is the biggest liability in the big 12 tonight. Highest ticket and handle percentage. They've won five straight. They have the best scoring margin in the conference. So I think we'll for sure see them in the conference championship game. Probably facing their co champs, the Jayhawks, these teams are number one and number two in scoring. They're just too tough to keep up with. Well staying in the big 12 quickly Iowa state and texas Tech will play after Baylor. Tech is favored by 7.5 but Iowa state has already beat them this season. Could Tech be on upset alert tonight? You think So. I looked back at that January cyclones win and tech was without their top two scorers and actually playing with just five scholarship players due to health and safety slash covid protocols. They were held under 50 points. That was their lowest of the season. It was very uncharacteristic. So no, I don't think we see that again tonight. I like texas Tech money line here. They're the better scoring team. They're the better defensive team but I'm still staying away from the spread. So take the money line. There we go. I love that pick similarly Seton Hall and Yukon split their season series but the huskies are favored tonight by 3.5. Where's the smart money tonight in Madison Square Garden? Well, it's an intriguing matchup as they did split the regular season series. Both games. By the way, we're competitive one went to overtime. UConn maybe without two of their best perimeter shooters tonight. That's Jordan Hawkins with a concussion and Tyler Polley with illness but Seton Hall is also without their leading scorer for the season bryce akin. It was fantastic in the previous meetings. Um they also might be without Qatari Richmond with a thumb injury. He aggravated that last night in the Georgetown win. He had 40 combined points this season versus Yukon. That's a lot of missing scoring from this teams that that's gonna be a big loss. There is no worse time to get an injury as one of those players, I can't even imagine. Okay we're rolling through these north Carolina is hot after spoiling coach case Cameron indoor farewell. We all watch this one. Are they real contenders going forward or could Virginia expose them as four point underdogs tonight? Well, bettors love north Carolina here. They're the highest ticket at bed. Mgm in the A. C. C. And I agree on one of them. North Carolina averages almost 79 points per game. Whereas you via averages almost 63 points per game. That's too big a disparity. However they do have the best scoring defense in the A. C. C. And Virginia is kind of old school. You know they don't take a lot of threes so these are just conflicting styles of play. But I think north Carolina dominates here just like they did in january which was a 16 point win in Chapel Hill. I think they take all that good mojo from Cameron into barclays. Well there were very very high hopes at the beginning of the year for Alabama and the tide haven't really lived up to those expectations. 5.5 point favorites against Vandy tonight. Can they kick off one last push to get into the big dance tonight You think? Yeah, I mean the defending sec champs are hanging on by a thread here after a disappointing season. But I do like Alabama here. Vanderbilt had lost five of their last seven regular season games to finish their season. That included a two point loss, very competitive game to Alabama. But Alabama, head coach Nate oats was just on the paul Finebaum show yesterday and he was saying it's an effort and maturity issue. If they overlook this game like they have in some previous games, that was a bit of a red flag to me. They certainly need a momentum boost now in sec attorney if they have any chance moving forward. So let's hope they get that maturity and that pressure coming. Well, lastly I also have to ask for those of us neutrals who just want to root for points tonight. Which overs on the board. Do you like the most Well perfect same game. I like the over in the Vandy Bama game over one 48 a half was the last number. I saw Obama averages 80 points per game and they allow over 76. So do the math. Vandy goes as scotty pippen JR goes to he's their leading scorer almost every night and he had 26 in this last meeting. So I like Commodores to put some points up. Alabama certainly will let them. So take the over in that game. Alright. Olivia, plenty of hopes talked to get through these days. But it was also a huge week for some NFL news with big name quarterbacks being dealt and signing some new deals. So let's break down some of those topics and our rapid fire buzzer beater. You ready for it? Yes, I love this part. Alright, Russell Wilson opened as Plus 3004 NFL MVP after his traded Denver, he stands at plus 1400 too much not enough or just right. I kinda like it. So I'm gonna say just write Denver had all these great pieces deep receiving core and all pro left tackle and it's a shame they had to throw in tight and no offense to that deal. But there's still a lot of talent on the broncos offense. So I think rust can get cooking right away. Oh yeah. And the other big quarterback news this week, Aaron Rodgers reportedly getting a four year, $200 million deal to remain in Green Bay. I know right. How have we not talked about this yet? The contract, do you think that one's too much? Not enough or just right, well it's not finalized yet. That number is not finalized yet. He keeps saying it was never a money grab. Never about the figure and you know, it's a new Aaron Rodgers, he's kind of in this zen place and I know he wants a cap friendly deal and have the right pieces around him, which I really respect and love as a packer fan, you've got to sacrifice a little but retirement was very much a probability. So I'm just glad he's back. So I think the number is a little too much because I think it'll come down. Shailene Woodley might have a little something to do with that zen Aaron Rodgers that we're experiencing all right. Last one really quickly. Carson Wentz is a commander. Put yourself into Washington fans shoes and talk us into him being a good quarterback for the commanders as much as we loved the peaks of Taylor Heinecke last year, which there were some, I think it's a big upgrade from Taylor Heinecke last year, Carson Wentz had a 4 to 1 touchdown interception ratio 3 to 1 in his career, but 4 to 1 last year is pretty good and he's never had a stellar receiver room Now he's a legitimate number one receiver with Terry McLaurin. So I think is the best receiver in the NFC east without Amari cooper in Dallas. So I think there's a lot to be excited about their, it's not all doom and gloom in Washington.
