SEC Eyes New Cybersecurity Regulations

Take a look, Keith, why are we seeing an increase in regulatory pressures, especially in the field with cyber security? But when you think about cyber, it's just affecting all of our lives right now. Every day, we hear about a new cyber attack. We're here at this conference all dedicated about cyber security. And Cyber is one of the biggest threats facing companies right now. And as a result of that, the government is getting more involved, particularly the. So speaking of the SEC, can you tell us a little bit more about the recent proposal? Yeah. So what the SEC is trying to do right now because the attack surface is increasing. Cyber attacks are increasing. What they're trying to do is get information out to investors like you and I, so they want companies to report cyber security matters or incidents that would be considered material So something that would affect whether you or I would invest in this company. So whether the incident is big or there's a series of incidents that would happen, they want now companies to be able to report that. So to get that intelligence out to the investors so that they can make an educated decision when they're going to invest. So how will this impact the make up of boards and what should they be thinking about at this time? So this is going to impact boards because what the SEC is proposing and these proposals are supposed to go in place a third quarter this year is they want a dedicated cyber security expert on the board. So when you think most boards, they spend about 20 250 to 300 hours talking about board matters and out of that, only about like one or two hours is really spent on Cyber. So if Cyber is so important now they want the boards to spend more time on Cyber and they want a dedicated cyber security expert and not just somebody that's an I T expert, but somebody that's really trained in cyber security.
