Normally, when the top Democratic member of a committee steps down, the natural progression is for the next most senior member to take their place. But in the case of the Senate Judiciary Committee and Sen. Dianne Feinstein stepping down, it's not so cut and dry. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) is next in line, but questions swirl about whether he can hold both a top spot on a key committee and his leadership post as Senate Democratic Whip.
