The Smithsonian was tasked this year with bringing the first museum dedicated to the American Latino experience to Washington, DC. Antonio Argibay, board member and friend of the National Museum of the American Latino, joined Cheddar for Hispanic Heritage Month to talk about the efforts to help create one of the Smithsonian’s newest members and securing funds for the project through Congress and private fundraising. He also noted that the Friends of the American Latino Museum are still engaged in advocating for placing the museum on the National Mall, preferably across from the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
