Soccer Stars Ali Krieger, Ashlyn Harris Talk Motherhood and Hertz Partnership

Welcome back to Between Bells when soccer legends Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris are not killing it on the soccer field or winning World Cup championships where they're doing the most important jump, which is being moms to celebrate their second mother's day. The two are teaming up with hurts once again to show moms how they can ride in style. Now I sat down with the power couple. We talked all about their love raising their daughter sloane and also playing against their former team, the Orlando Pride during their National Women's Soccer League regular season opener. That was on sunday. Take a look. I was getting a lot of booze. That's a lot of trader comments. So they were really, yeah, they were really going in hard on me. So I loved it though. It was the three nothing when I think, yeah, proved that we, we made a good choice. I was going to say, Is it hard to sort of prepare mentally to play your former teammates, your former team, all those memories from long ago all coming up to a float again. Yeah, absolutely. And especially this being, you know what I consider home, it's definitely has a different taste in my mouth, but I was so happy to see familiar faces, see my family in the stands to see all my God kids. That was just a real treat for me now, as Ali mentioned, you know, Gotham FC, you guys won that game 3-3 to nothing. How do you sort of keep the momentum going for the rest of the year and what sort of your outlook for the team for the rest of the year here? Well, we have such a great squad, I think everyone is so motivated to want to win and, and continue to get better weekend and week out. So that is the main focus kind of taking each game and each week in each training session and figuring out how we can continue to get better as individuals, but also as a team and how we can continue to be successful and, and just iron continue to iron out those little details that um, is helping our team continue to play really well every day together. So that's kind of our focus now and hopefully we'll carry this on throughout the whole season. So how are you guys able? And I'm curious to keep, you know, all the stuff that's on the field, on the field and never bring it back home. This is the whole reason why I could never work with my husband ever. Well we have, we have had a lot of time to figure it out, but we have a little fun rules. Yeah, we have rules. So on the car ride, we can talk anything soccer. But as soon as we get out of the car, it's family time, it's time to just focus on being present and connecting and, you know, just showing up for Sloan our child and being, you know, the tight knit family we are and separating soccer from our personal life because there's so much more to us than what we do. So let's talk about Sloan because she is so cute. Last time we talked to you guys, you had just adopted her during the pandemic. How is Sloan doing right now? What's new in mommy life right now? Oh my gosh, she's just all over the place. She's crawling everywhere. She's taking a few steps on her own. So it's really exciting. She's almost walking by herself and it's just an exciting time. We love watching her change and grow every single day. There's so much that's happening in her life and so we are actually trying to keep up with her rather and it's been so great to see her thrive and her new school that she's going to during the day when we're at training and she's making new friends and learning a lot of new things and then she comes home and she's just like yakking away, Um talking to us nonstop and so we know she's thriving where she's at right now. She's almost 15 months and so time is actually flying by. Um, but she's just doing so well. She's such a happy baby, she has such a great personality and yeah, hopefully she's gonna be wanting to kick a soccer ball. I feel like it's like so common, everyone is not like a house loan, we literally think our kid's the best kid in the world. So I would hope that all parents, they have, but we're biased when it comes to our little girl, but she has been an absolute joy. Um, and we're loving every minute. We're always on fumes. We say that we have three full time jobs being an athlete, being a mom and all the stuff we do outside. So um, it's been really fun well and you guys had said in this interview with Elle, which I thought was really revealing that motherhood is an incredibly tough job. What did you sort of wish somebody told you before you went into this process? Was there anything that you wish you knew about motherhood before this? I just think for myself, um I really had no idea. Like they don't give you like a handbook or like a playbook of how to be a mom. So it was like a really big change for both Ali and I and I guess my best advice or like what I feel is you just learn to operate on fumes. I think that was my biggest adjustment because you just don't have time to rest or really, you don't have that much time to yourself. So you, you're just constantly going and you learn to kind of deal with being extremely exhausted at all times and very little. I say like days are very short and long, nights are very long. Like it's just really interesting. She's either up at 2 15, she's teething. Like we're just trying to operate on very little sleep at this point. So, but it's part about, you know, it's raising a trial. Absolutely all the more reason to celebrate the amazing moms and all the things that they do coming up on Mother's Day and because of Mother's Day, you guys are partnering with hurts once again, tell us a little bit about this partnership and what sort of things are you doing here with them? Well, we're so excited that hurts us providing us with another car the second year in a row to celebrate something that we can do together as a family outside of soccer, which is so nice that they are giving us this chance and this opportunity to also showcase our family and you know, be a part of the LGBT community community and so having that support from her. It is also amazing. Um, we're gonna take our family um, to the beach again. This is something that we obviously love to do and having a wrapped car which we also laughed about because they wrapped it and moms who like to like to take it and we thought that fit just perfect for us, but us having the support from them and just, you know, having this car to be able to enjoy it on Mother's Day and to celebrate a second year in a row with them has been incredible because it really brings our family together and were able to kind of step away from soccer and and focus on what really matters to us um, you know, with our family. Absolutely, let's add to that, it's so important for us to partner with with companies to really like visibility matters like all families look different and I love that they're celebrating our family, you know, this queer biracial um family who just have so much joy and love to show the world and what a great platform to be able to express that and to be celebrated. So we're just so unbelievably lucky to have partners like hurts in our corner who understand the importance especially this time, like what's going on in the world to really just lift us and celebrate us for exactly who we are and what we look like and what we care about. Um so it's been, it's been such a joy for our family to always have, you know, hurts in our corner absolutely really quickly guys, while I have you pride month next month, obviously as you just were talking about what pride means to so many different people, but what does it mean to you guys, especially now as mothers and LGBT icons in this industry, what does it mean? What does pride mean to you? Pride means to me living our lives authentically and really being true to who we are and really being celebrated for that and show people that we are normal and we do have a place in this world and I think that our family is a family that you know, can be looked up to and can, you know, we can be role models for a lot of other queer families. And so that is something that I take pride in and just continuing to build our relationship not only together but with Sloan and bring her along the way and really show her and give her this beautiful life that we've always imagined and our thanks to the amazing Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris National Women's Soccer League players there and mom's the amazing Sloan.
