Stars of 'Power Book III: Raising Kanan' Talk New Season 

Welcome back Between Bells, everyone. All you power fans get ready because Power Book three raising Canaan is back. The hit Star show is set in the early 19 nineties and it is the third series in the Power universe. It follows the origin story of fan favorite character, Canaan Stark as he enters into the criminal world through his mother who ruthlessly runs the family's drug empire. And in season two, well things get even crazier. Take a look for yourself. I'm looking to build, expand, getting scared. I know who my son is and I know what he's capable of. I can't protect you the way that I thought I could. So you're the little broad creating all these big problems. Huh? Earlier, our very own Shannon linear sat down with Patina Miller and McKay, Curtis stars of Power Book three Raising CAIN in to talk all about season to take a look. We are big fans of Power Book three here and actually the whole franchise, we love it also. We appreciate your time being here with us today. Alright, McKay, I gotta start with you. Season one ended intensely. I mean, we saw your character Cannon shoot the lead detective. Okay, and there's some drama all mixed up and I don't want to give any spoiler alerts, but mama, you wrong for that, leaving everyone on edge. So you know what can fans expect this season, I mean man, what can fans expect this season? There's definitely going to be, I think the biggest thing is, you know, just the fallout of what we saw happen in those last two episodes in the first season, um everybody's kind of dealing with the consequences of that and how that all, you know that one moment for sure changes the entire infrastructure, whether people know it or not in this, I'm talking about the characters, whether they know it or not, of the relationships in raising canyon, um there's, there's so much that, that raises the stakes with that, that happening, you're just gonna see all of the characters in the second season grappling with how that has shifted everything and, and rocks, you know, newfound territory and newfound even greater win and how she's trying to balance the whole family within that as well. Yeah, there's a lot of navigating the dynamics and the power in this show, so Patina, your character raquel or rock, you know, she's also making some big moves in season one and she's sort of like putting things in place to establish herself as the queen pin in this situation. So with that in mind what kind of moves she hoping to make in season two. So I know there's gonna be some big ones when season two, she is the queen pin, uh she, she's on top, she is got all, all of her enemies are out of the way and so now it's about how she stays on top and um you know, she's, she's very, she's doing very well in her business, you know, things that she wanted in season one, the dreams for her business. She's seeing it all come to fruition and you know she has the game on lot but her family is not nowhere close to being together and you know the family unit, everybody's separate, so it's about Raquel trying to deal with that um and deal with her son the consequences of you know her sending him to do what he did in the first season. Now she has to grapple with that and find a way back in while also trying to gauge if he knows the secret or not. And now that howard is not um deceased, what does that mean for her? So there's chaos, the stakes are high. Um she's dealing with a new territory, you know she wants more for the business and so now there are new, they're new enemies, their new foes and there are some really weird alliances as well and so you're watching her deal with the chaos of her family while also trying to hold onto the throne, hold on to the power that she has established for herself and also see her make moves and see how amazing she is at what she does. Yeah, I know, even though I don't know if it's morbid of me, but I love the moves, she makes, she gets so excited like yeah girl, you win it, but we're gonna ask, you know the power fandom is huge, people love all the spin off, so what is it about? Power Book Three that really makes it so popular with fans. I mean, Power Book Three is just it's it's different, there's, you know, there's a one we're stepping into like, a different era of the power Universe where we're prequel, so we get to tell it from the nineties, that's, you know, that that's already a different feeling in itself. Nineties new york was grungy and grimy, and I think we, you know, we we translate that uh really well and what's being, you know, shot and filmed, um the performances are just uh second season, I'm so excited, I'm a little scared to see it because just how dynamic and explosive everybody's performances. Uh there's this intensity that we all carry that. I don't know, just it cannot be described. It's it's it's exciting, the stakes are higher this season. Um yeah, you know, you're you're stepping into an entirely different world with this show from characters to um you know, to overall scoring and music, it's just it's just a whole different experience that you get to. You get to step into in Book Three. Yeah, my family actually has watch parties for it, so we love it, we're all in, we're definitely gonna be supporting you and Patina. You know, I can't let you leave real quick, we have 30 seconds left, I have to ask you about the revival of broadway's Into the Woods? You you start alongside some huge names, but you take the final bow at the end. So what's it like being part of this production? Um, this part, the production is a beautiful production. It means so much to me it's an iconic show and I'm playing an iconic role and to me as a black woman, being able to be up on that stage in this day and age and um, take the final bow in that show. Um, it, I, I feel so much pride and so much honor in that and to look out into the audience and see how it's affecting people, but to also see people who look like me in the audience and behind the scenes, it really is a great moment in time. So we're doing this really amazing show, but what I get to experience now, um, just being an actor of color and actress of color within this is it's just really phenomenal and I'm having a great time.
