Long a safe haven for the gay community, LGBTQ bars took a heavy hit during the COVID-19 pandemic. But these community hubs aren't without their loyal patrons and supporters. For all those that have closed, still others have survived thanks to the grit and creativity of staff and the generosity of their community.

Times are still tough for those bars that have survived. But with Pride just around the corner, the establishments that have survived are looking forward to brighter days ahead.

Cheddar spoke to owners at Alibi Lounge in Harlem and The Ritz Bar and Lounge in Hell’s Kitchen about what these bars mean to the LGBTQ community.
