Extreme weather has well documented effects on humans. But a new study points out that it's also impacting the animal kingdom. The new research published this week in the journal Nature Ecology and Science found that native species struggle to survive after a climate change influenced extreme weather events, like floods, hurricanes and heat waves. Native species were more likely to be displaced or lose population or habit that after disasters. Now, by comparison, non native species who aren't historically a part of that ecosystem, they were more resilient and less likely to be negatively impacted by extreme weather. This study suggested that that could be because the species already adapted to survive in a new environment.
