Study: Discrimination May Lead to Obesity

A new study has looked into the effects of discrimination on the human body. It found that experiencing discrimination may change how the brain and gut interact and potentially lead to obesity. The study was published in the Journal Nature Mental Health. Today, researchers studied more than a people who answered questionnaires about their experiences based on discrimination they faced. Then they underwent brain scans while looking at pictures of food like cake and ice cream. The brain scans showed the photos triggered a heightened response from people who experienced high levels of discrimination. Basically, it was all about trigger, triggering the reward part of the brain. Now, the senior author of the study from UCL A explained sugar is highly addictive and craved by people who are under stress. Kristen, I have to say this is not a study I thought about, but it makes sense. I think a lot of people when they are depressed, many of us I've done it or had a bad experience, tend to shop more, tend to eat more. I think this goes in line with what we've seen with so many studies before. I think it's uh really true. Hannah and I think just another good reminder. Right. The more care, uh, that we can treat others with, hopefully the better.
