Study: 'Forever Chemicals' in Some Paper, Bamboo Straws

Right time now for our good to know headlines. When you use paper and bamboo straws, you assume you're doing something good for the environment. Right. Right. Right. Well, a new report shows that some non paper straws have so called forever chemicals that could make them a risk to your health. Scientists in Belgium recently tested 39 brands of straws from across the country including paper, bamboo glass, stainless steel and plastic. Finding that 27 brands contain PFAS. Those are synthetic chemicals used in manufacturing that can resist stains, grease and water straws made of paper were the most likely to contain the chemicals. But they were also found in five bamboo brands, three plastic brands and two glass brands. All five stainless steel straws tested were PFA free but the results were published Thursday in the journal food additives and contaminants.
