The spread of COVID Bond University conducted a review of 15 studies from 10 countries that examined phones for contamination in hospital settings. Between 2019 and 2023 of the 511 phones tested 231 of those phones tested positive for the presence of COVID. A small study done last year in France tested 19 phones and found them all to be contaminated.
