And finally, we know exercise and movement is good for you. But a new study has looked at the risk associated with sitting for long periods of time. The research by the University of Southern California and the University of Arizona focus on adults, 60 older. It found older adults who spend more than 10 hours a day sitting doing things like watching TV, or driving long hours are at significantly higher risk of developing dementia. Researchers looked at the total time spent sedentary and found the length of individual periods did not matter. That's in contrast to previous research that found getting up every 30 minutes or so to move your body could negate any bad effects of sitting.
