Survey: Nearly 66 Percent of Americans Have an Unused Gift Card

Now, Have you ever been guilty of being given a gift card and then just letting it sit around until you forgot about it? Well apparently you weren't the only one. According to a new survey of more than 1200 americans, nearly two thirds have at least one unspent gift card. Additionally, the credit summit report found that at least half of those surveyed admitted losing a gift card before they used it. The report estimates that there is as much as a whopping $21 billion $200 or less. But there is some good news according to federal laws, gift cards don't expire until at least five years after their activated, so there's still time to spend those gift cards and last year's are like a decade old and I have any of these. Yeah, I have time. And the weirdest part is they're all like $5.06 dollars, like they're all like really sort of small increments here. But I think a lot of these companies expect you to forget that you have these gift cards which is why I love it when companies like amazon or others allow you to implement the gift card online and then it just stays there whenever you make your next purchase rather than just keeping that gift card in your wallet.
