Actor Tahj Mowry is keeping busy with his roles on the CBS show "How We Roll," "The Muppets Mayhem" on Disney+, and his upcoming Netflix film. He joined Cheddar's Between Bells to discuss his various projects and being a Hollywood staple for decades with roles that have been a part of many fan-favorite shows including "Baby Daddy" and "Smart Guy," the latter of which he provides a scoop for fans hoping to see a reboot any time soon.

Actor Tahj Mowry Gives a Scoop on His Upcoming Series, Possible ‘Smart Guy’ Reboot

Welcome back to Between Bells. Our next guest is probably one of the smartest guys you'll ever meet. Of course we're talking about actor, Taj mori the stars. Acting creeds date back to when he was just a kid and since then he's continued his dominance in the industry starring in many fan favorite projects like abc family's baby daddy and Cbs. How we Roll joining us now to discuss his upcoming projects is Taj Maury himself, Welcome to the show, Tosh, we're so excited to have you so I want to dive in here. Of course, it's a pleasure for us. We love you here at cheddar. So according to Variety, how we Roll had the second most watched broadcast comedy debut behind CBS's ghost. Congrats on that. What do you think this show is doing and why it's so well well loved by viewers. Oh wow. I think it's just because it's real. You know, I think there's um there's a grounded nous to it that people can relate to and it's a it's a it's about a real person as well. Tom Smallwood is an actual person who went through exactly what we're portraying in this show and I think that's that's one of the main reasons why people, people like it. So if you're not busy enough, you're also starring in Disney Plus is the muppet Mayhem. That of course is a second series starting Jim Henson's famous creatures. What can fans expect from this project because that is a beloved project. There are millions of people around the globe who love the muppets. Oh man. Well all I can say is that every day at work is surreal we're filming it. Um now we're in the thick of it, I can't tell you too much, but in pure muppets fashion, you can expect some amazing guest stars. Um and the show is just everything you love about the muppets and more. It's hilarious, it's heartwarming, it's funny. Um and it's so much fun. I'm having a blast. So another project that seems like a lot of fun is the one coming out in august, I just want to read the names of your co stars along with you, Mark wahlberg, Regina Hall, kevin Hart. This is for netflix's me time. How difficult was it to keep a straight face with these comic heavy hitters? It was very difficult, it was very difficult. Um it's one of the most fun I've ever had on set. Our director john Hamburg, you know, people know him from meet the Parents and and Zoo Lander, he allowed us to play a lot as well. And when you're on set with any of those names that you mentioned, you don't know what they're gonna say. So it keeps you on your toes and you gotta come right back with it with some good ad Libs uh to keep the scene going and people are going to love this movie so much. It is so funny. Um the amount of times I was just cracking up on set, I I I couldn't count. It's it's and such a such an honor to be with those incredible names and people are really gonna love it. Really gonna love it. I can't wait to see it. We hope you come back to discuss it. Like we were mentioning before Todd, you've been in the industry since you were a child, how do you go through the ups and downs of the crazy business that you're in? You know what? I think my faith plays a big part in it. Uh my family, um I've had my core group of friends for years, some since high school, so going on 20 years for my main group of of my best friends um and I think just keeping the level of an attitude of gratitude um and and and doing your best to stay humble, you know what I mean? And keeping the right people around you taking breaks when, when you need them and and being able to separate, you know, glenn the glamour of of this, this business with real life and and that's what I try to do and, you know, keeping a love for what you do and and and staying inspired is something that I adamantly try to do all the time. So, I'm always, you know, I'm always pushing for for for more for, you know, to be challenged and I never wanna feel bored or take anything for granted. So, I think those are the main things, I love that attitude and speaking of being inspired, I do want to talk about your show, Baby Daddy because it is known to have chemistry all of you. The cast has such great chemistry, it's undeniable. Do you find it very easy to bounce off each other for this show? Oh my gosh, you know, there's nothing better than walking onto a set. Um, and, and feeling that that chemistry right off the bat sometimes it takes time. Sometimes it's, it's evident in in, in, in the show and in the fans that watch it. And that is a perfect example of day one on that show. We all just click became a family instantly and the writers were kind of able to weave in things that were happening in our actual lives with things that were happening, you know, with the characters. Um, and you know, such, such a fun, fun run of six seasons we did with that show and people are still loving it to this day. And yeah, it's just truly an honor to be a part of that show. And I love each and every one of them deeply. I want to ask you about a rumor that says you may be working on a smart guy reboot one, is that true and two, Why do you think americans love reboot so much because they're across so many networks. Well answer the first, the second part of your question first, I think, you know, we're in a time now where well, I mean any time where you can feel any sense of nostalgia is a good feeling, you know what I mean? It brings you back to to that time. There's a level of comfort in it. So I think now as people get older fans of the show that were, you know, watching it back in the day are now older and they want to feel that nostalgia again. Um and yes, it's it's tricky because it's it's kind of on pause now because I'm so busy, I'm doing um you know, muppets right now and it just has to be the perfect time. There have been numerous conversations about it. Um great conversations, I'll tell you that. Um and it will happen. It's just a matter of of when that timing is right and it's something that I want to take my time with. I don't want the fans to be mad with, you know mad at me in any way I want to give them, you know, a project that they can watch not only for, you know, a one off, but for, you know, for for multiple seasons. So it will happen. I can't tell you when, but it will happen. I will not stop until it happens. Um I came up with a very fresh uh take on it that that would would include, you know, the original cast, as long as some some new cast as well, blending the old and new. But yes, it takes time. I'm taking my time with it, but I will not stop until it is done. Well your fans are gonna be very happy to hear that. And Taj, you are beloved for so many of our rules but our favorite is your very hilarious role as TJ and smart guy. So in honor of you maybe possibly working on the show's reboot very, very soon, fingers crossed. We want to play a game with you. I hope that's okay. It's called, it's called This or that smart guy edition. So I'll give you a few scenarios and you have to tell me which one of the options is smarter to pick. Are you ready? I'm ready. First up we know you have a passion for both football and music. So Taj if you had to, which is the smarter choice playing in a Super Bowl game or singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl. Well I'm gonna go personally with this. It could be a different answer for everyone, but I'm gonna go with the national anthem because I can't move like I used to do you think you can say? Yeah, that's incredible. Okay, that surprised me. Alright, my body, I'm getting older. I'm getting older so I don't know if I'll be able to, hey, I would love to hear you say, All right, next up your, you've started so many shows and films, which is a smarter choice, spending 18 hours on a movie set or 18 hours on a tv set. Oh dang that's hard. I love both so much. Um Well in in since I'm working on muppets now I'm going to the T. V. Set just because there's muppets that's a safe answer. I think that's a safe answer. Okay so we know you're you're super close with your family. We love your sisters here at cheddar news. They've actually been on the network a few times. Which one of your sisters? Would it not be smart to make angry Tia or Tamera? Oh they're both so sweet. Oh my gosh I'm not I'm pleading the fifth on that one. I'm not doing that. But you know what? I'm not gonna push you on that because I I don't want your sisters to get mad at you. So okay I am not trying to know you're not gonna get me with that one.
