Jamila Souffrant, Founder of the financial website "Journey to Launch", joins Your Cheddar to discuss how people can budget for 2018. She says you need to look back at 2017 to see what went right and what went wrong. Determine what you want to continue doing and what you think you need to change. Once you do a good assessment of what worked, you need to make sure you know what your goals are. She says there are several types of goals people can set for themselves: salary goals (how much more they want to earn that year), savings goals (how much they want to save and what are they saving for), and habits goals (what habits are they going to work on that will improve their overall quality of life). Plus, still working on your holiday budget? It may be too late for this year, Souffrant gives tips on how to save cash through the year so you don't go into debt in December. Her suggestion: calculate when you spent last year and divide it by 12. When 2018 starts, put that amount aside each month.
