The Taliban now has almost complete control over Afghanistan, and the security situation in the country remains fragile. Taliban leaders held a press conference in which they vowed to protect women's rights under Islamic law, and to make sure Afghanistan does not become a hotspot for terrorism. Meanwhile as the situation declines, the White House is standing by its decision to withdraw U.S. troops from the country by the end of the month.
