Eric Cole, CEO of Secure Anchor Consulting and Author of the upcoming book, "Online Danger: How to Protect Yourself and Your Loved Ones From the Evil Side of the Internet," joins Cheddar to discuss how to keep your identity safe online during this holiday shopping season. He says to not connect to public Wi-Fi, especially at the mall. It's just not safe. When you leave the house, turn off your Wi-Fi. Plus, even though the new chips in your credit card are supposed to make your information safer, he says you still should buy a $5 "RFID-Protected" wallet so thieves can't access a chip card when in close range. He says tin foil works too! Plus, one of his biggest tips is to change your credit card number after the holiday season. He says he actually changes his every month! His recommendation is to change things up every 6 months. Typically, if your credit card number has been stolen, it takes several weeks for theft charges to appear, so be sure to call your bank and have them issue a new card sometime in early January.
