Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin, co-founders of 'The Home Edit', join Cheddar News to discuss how to stay organized this cold and flu season. Clea also opens up about her diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer and how she's prioritizing her health.

'The Home Edit' On Staying Organized This Flu Season

Claire Scherer and Joanna Teplin founded the Home Edit together in 2015 to help people organize their homes in a fun, aesthetically pleasing and easy to navigate way. Since then they've grown the brand into a successful multi platform business with best selling books and Emmy nominated netflix show A line of organization products sold in over 25 countries. I spoke with clear Asher and Joanna Teplin, co founders of the home edit and Abbott spokespeople earlier about their company getting organized this flu season and their own personal journeys with their health. Take a look. We co founded a company called The Home Edit. Um, we are a lifestyle brand and organizing company rooted in creating systems and making people's life a little bit easier. So a change in season is often a time for people to reorganize their medicine cabinets. What are your top tips for getting organized this cold and flu season, Joanne? I'll start with you for this question. Sure. We always want to create a system that's easy for the family or who's ever using it. That's the first thing you want to do. Find a station that's easy to set up And here we have just set up a little medicine cabinet and we want to start with editing grouping and labeling all of your essentials right? It's all about zones, creating systems that are easy to use easy to maintain. You can obviously see where everything is. We recommend using clear storage and containing all of your items, helps you see exactly what you need when you need to use it and you can see when you're running low something you can see when things need to be restocked. So even a small space like a medicine cabinet looks perfect and it's easy to access at all times. It is so organized. Clia you've been really open about your diagnosis with breast cancer recently finishing chemo. How are you feeling and how are you prioritizing your health right now? Well, I really appreciate the buinaksk now. Covid tests throughout all of my treatment. We are daily test takers over here and it's been really important to continue to prioritize my health through treatment and make sure that I'm staying safe and that everyone around me is staying safe so that my health doesn't falter. Um and I'm feeling really well right now, I'm about to embark on radiation, but but you know, again, this cold and flu season, it is really important to make sure that that piece of my health journey stays, stays well. So yes, you can see all of the essentials behind me. That's what that's what I'm using to stay safe. Having easy Covid tests, you know, at the ready, just helps the mental mental awareness to so that, you know, you're not getting other people sick as well. Yeah, it is breast cancer awareness month, leo what's your advice to people that might be going through this? Well, I think staying with a kind of a healthy hopeful mindset is really important um I think, you know, taking care of yourself every chance you can get and prioritizing your health not just through your breast cancer journey, but through again, cold and flu season all of it, it's that much more important to stay healthy. But I think having a positive mindset is really the most important thing in terms of getting through this journey and Joanna you've been alongside clear throughout her journey, how can someone best support a loved one in their life who has been diagnosed with breast cancer? I mean watching your best friend go through this is really challenging, but I'm continually so inspired by just the way that Clay has handled this with such dignity, such grace, such fortitude. I mean I am truly blown away and inspired daily by her. Absolutely, I think there's so many out there that feel exactly the same way I'm going to switch gears now. Cleo, you've been working alongside Reese Witherspoon for years now, her company recently acquired your brand. What's it been like working with Reese Witherspoon? Well we've had the very lucky good fortune to have worked with Reece for years now um and to consider her a friend, so now to consider her boss, it's wild, it's pretty wild, but she's so incredible and such a force and it's really amazing to be surrounded by such powerful, impactful women who just make this world so much better. You know, Hello Sunshine is such an incredible brand and being surrounded by these women has really changed our lives, Joanna. We have to ask will there be a season three of the home edit? We're working on it. Stay tuned. Alright. And Julia, any final words of advice for people who might be overwhelmed with getting organized this season? Now this question is for both of you because it's so easy to get overwhelmed. Yes, well we always say start small again, a medicine cabinet is a perfect example of a small confined space that has a real impact. You know, we create grab and go systems. Um and it's a small space that really makes a difference in your day to day life. So don't think that you have to tackle the largest project. Tackle the projects that honestly make a difference in your daily routine. Like again a medicine cabinet a drawer, something that involves your day to day wellness, that's the perfect area to stay focused and something small. Like I said, starting, starting something small as you to see the process from A to Z. And that way you get your feet wet and you're ready to tackle much larger project like a closet, a pantry or something else. But a medicine cabinet or drawer is the perfect place to start.
