Things Get Spooky With 'The Midnight Club'

you know, spooky season's in full swing over on netflix. Almost every year since 2018, the streamer has released a new horror project from Mike flanagan just in time for Halloween. And this year's fans are being treated with a new series called The Midnight Club and two members of the cast co and Saurian Sapkota recently joined me to talk all about the new show and much more take a look. The Midnight Club was created by Mike flanagan, who is also created hit shows like the haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, which are so spooky, he's one of the best horror writer directors around. So what was it like to work with him and what did you maybe learn from him? I mean, he's just such a generous director and he was always open to listening what what what we wanted to bring to our characters, little suggestions team, they're like, there's one particular instance for me, my character, Nazi, she's a military brat, her background. So I actually suggested that she have dog tags with her. Um and that was something that he was really open to and he made that happen as soon as I suggested, it was great. Yeah, I mean, Mike is such a generous, like, like I s a generous director. Um this being my first project, I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to work with. And Mike has created what we call like a planet Fam which is like, you know, it's definitely created a group of people. Um but yeah, I just I love working with Mike and I you know, I can't wait for fans to see the show. Yeah. Story. And you mentioned your first big project. This is your on screen debut. So what is it like having your first project be on netflix? That probably seen by millions of people? I just feel like the luckiest guy in the world, I mean that's the dream, right? B Uh in in a professional setting and you know, like I said before, I couldn't have asked for a better group of people uh than the planet family. Yeah, like that. Now I have the first episode of the show actually broke against world record. It had the most jump scares and a TV episode with 21. So talk to us a little bit about what a jump scare is. And are they scary to film or is it like, Oh I know it's coming, it's not scary at all. Well, to be honest, being on set, you know, the scariest thing is just being a part of it for myself. But um filming it. No, it was super fun. It was such easy, you can carefully kind of time. You know, curated scene. We did a lot of stuff rehearsals and that was probably the most important part about jump scares that, you know, it has to jump out at you freak you out in the right moment. So now sorry, and this has some pretty heavy topics associated with, it's not just scary, but you deal with deep topics like death and the afterlife. So what was the vibe like on set? Maybe between tapes knowing that you know, we have those themes present in our story. Um it was, it was lovely to, you know, kind of bond together and knowing uh you know, that we did all our research and you know, we had all these um stories that we told with each other, you know? And I feel like um the vibe on set was very much, you know, like any other teenager vibe, you know, we just meshed well together and like you were dancing in the room, but then once it started to get heavy, you know, that's, that's when it kind of settled, it kind of felt like a summer camp. Yeah, that's a cool vibe. I like that. Okay, so I on a scale from 1 to 10, what was the scariest you were ever on set? And were there like strange spooky things really happening in real life. I think maybe I'm not usually a scaredy cat myself. It takes a lot to scare me. I'm usually the one to scare, but she's the one to scare. She does. Oh my God, we have green rooms and they're like tents and I would like poke her head out of like, you know, like the shining, she's like, like she was scared man, She got all of us at one point, but I think I would say on a scale of 1 to 10 scare factor, there were definitely some days where it was like seven hours eight. The ceilings in the basement in particular. The entire set is genuinely inch black. We can't see a single thing in there. So you know, using the flashlights to look at all the creepy statues and everything. Um that was probably one of the, that sounds scary. Okay, So you both are set to start and another mike flanagan show, which I'm sure might scare you. It's called The Fall of the House of Usher and it actually starts Mark Hamill star legend himself. So also another incredible cast members that will be joining you for this. Is there anything you can tease about this show? Mm That is the question. Huh? I don't know. I feel like you know what fans can expect is, you know, it's a mic show and so there is a level of you know, quality there that anybody can expect. So, um, you know, I don't want to say too much right now. But uh, I don't think I can say anything right now. But yeah, I think the most we could probably cheese is that it's probably one of his most extravagant. And thanks again to actors. I and saurian The Midnight Club is streaming on netflix now
