friday friends Welcome back to Between Bells with Hannah dope and baker Machado and you know Hannah living through history is just downright exhausting. So we clearly missed a ton of things as a result of that. So that mind it's time for a triumphant return of everybody's favorite segment this week in trivia. Now of course we want to introduce our hostess with the mostest unions in the seventh best game show host on a streaming news network. Our executive producer Connor White seven, That's fine. I'll recap a big story from the past week and then ask a question that's kind of sort of related to it, baker and Hannah must agree on the same and sometimes by the way is the hardest part of all of this. I'm not kidding, I'm kidding. I'm kidding. I'm josh. All right, let's see how we do it. All right guys, let's start at the Supreme Court. The newly minted justice Gitanjali Brown, Jackson made some major history this week. The Senate voted 53 to 47 to confirm her with three republicans. Even crossing party lines in the vote. Can you believe it? The only step left is to make it official at a swearing in ceremony. She is not only the first black woman to be confirmed to the highest court in the land but will also be the first justice to have ever served as a public defender. Can you believe that while Jackson will be the first public defender on the court, she is not the first defense attorney to become a Supreme Court justice. When was the last time a former defense attorney was confirmed to the Supreme Court? Was in 1956 1967 1982 1991 baker looks pretty confident. I feel good. I feel okay. So I will go through some of this. I watched enough of the confirmation hearings of Judge Jackson. She talked about her idol and her hero, Thurgood Marshall, who also of course was the first black person to ever be on the Supreme Court. There's a lot of similarities between the two of them. I know he was at least nominated during the Lyndon johnson era. So it's clearly gonna be in the sixties because Lyndon johnson was. But I don't know there could have been somebody that I'm unaware of that might be outside of Thurgood marshall. I do feel fairly confident that it was okay. But but look sometimes when I get cocky and confident that I'm always wrong as a result of this. So so if if if if if if my theory is correct, I think it's b 1967 Thurgood marshall but I'm catching them and saying I could be wrong. Conner locking it in. Alright, okay. Rocket in. Alright, come on. Third good. Yes, thank you. My history teachers for telling me that. You couldn't just ask who was the last defense attorney because that would have been too easy. So we have to give it. Yes. Alright, listen up. In 1967 President Lyndon B johnson nominated Thurgood marshall to the Supreme Court and was confirmed by the Senate 69 to 11. Can you imagine such bipartisanship becoming the first black man on the court in the process before becoming a judge? Marshall went to law school and soon after graduating in 1934 started a 25 year relationship with the N double A CP by representing the organization in the landmark school discrimination case, Murray v. Pearson. In 1936 marshall became part of the N double A C P. S. National staff in 1991 Thurgood marshall retired from the Supreme Court and a defense attorney has not sat on the Supreme Court since. Can you believe that you learned something new? A lot of prosecutors on that bench. All right, moving on here could have been president. He could have been the guy picking these Supreme Court justices. I think we've all learned by now. If you booked Kanye West to headline your music festival, you better have a backup plan. Coachella did after pulling out of the California festival earlier this week. The wrapper left a big hole in the lineup for both weekends. Oh yeah, and the first one's next week. But organizers moved fast securing the weekend to join Swedish House mafia for the sunday headlining spot now Swedish House mafia was to post the headline friday night, but will now pair with the superstar singer, which natural fit considering they just released the hit song moth to a Flame together earlier this year. But let's go back to the beginning for the next trivia question. The first Coachella was held in 1999 Which of these acts was not a headliner at the first festival, Is it beck weezer tool or Rage Against the Machine? Okay, this is interesting. Okay, so I don't know if you've seen Okay, okay, so I don't know if you've seen that documentary, the Woodstock 99 documentary, which is really sort of interesting and I think it's on HBO max and it's, it's basically when the last Woodstock happened, it was when you had these crazy 90 bands like limp biscuit, Rage against the machine, Metallica all performing and that was the reason why they stopped having it because it was just a rage fest and people burn stuff down. So in 1999 right after that was over, Coachella happened. So raging, this machine did perform at Coachella 99 so they could have maybe performed at both or because they performed at the other one, they're not performing at Coachella. So if anything, maybe I'm thinking they didn't perform. So I want to take Rage against the machine out were eliminated. So I think that was the act that didn't well, that wasn't there. I don't know why I'm leaning towards c tool, but I don't know why I'm leaning towards Okay, how confident I am not confident. Okay. I'm only saying Rage against Machine because I know they were at Woodstock 99. So that's why I'm thinking, yes, I watched the documentary, I watched all about it. I think it's this, we're gonna dig. Come on rage. Oh, he was a tweezer. See that's what I'm talking about guys. Don't listen to me on this. Listen, we're batting 500 baseball season just kicked off. We're doing great. Coachella began in october 1999 with beck tool and Rage against the Machine. Headlining The headliners were joined by about 50 other acts over the first two days of the first festival. Coachella actually didn't return in 2000 as a drought canceled the festival, then bounced back in 2001 with Weezer making its Coachella debut. Now along with Swedish house mafia and the weekend, Billie Eilish and Harry Styles also set to headline the festival, by the way. Also does Meghan, the stallion kim patrons who, you know, I'm obsessed with the number one. You're going right baker, what you're going? Oh, of course I'm and I'm going. So that's the hardest part for me though. I have so much anxiety about what I'm gonna wear that. I can't I can't I still can't figure out what I'm gonna wear Alright, let's not forget the diet that I'm on diet and you know, we're gonna have reports from baker on the ground, he's going to be clear, he's going to be levelheaded. Don't come to me. Absolutely. Alright moving on here, I just mentioned it after a long and cold winter baseball has finally arrived, I'm pretty sure the Yankees are already getting their butts kicked. Major league baseball kicked off its new season thursday with more teams taking the field for the first time today, the ST louis Cardinals were one of the teams to get things started on thursday with the legendary Albert Pujols making his return to the franchise after more than a decade away. Now of course the Bush Stadium crowd greeted pool holes with a standing ovation as he was introduced as the team's designated hitter because oh yeah the D. H. Now Universal, we never have to watch a pitcher hit again. Besides Shohei Otani of course, now the ability to slot two holes in that D. H. Means he was able to appear in an opening day lineup for the 22nd straight season, That's the second longest streak of all time. So guess what the question is, who owns the record for the most consecutive opening day starts? Is it Pete Rose hank Aaron wow, Carl Jastremski or Yvonne, Rod pudge Rodriguez, the catcher from the texas rangers. The questions get harder. They are they are you have to like really know stuff on this one, so all of these guys I believe are all Hall of Famers so that they all clearly at least played at least 20 seasons likely Rodriguez, I feel like broke. Yvonne Rodriguez de has broke so many records as a catcher and he played for so many seasons with the rangers and the marlins and so many others. The only reason why I would say him is because he's had a really long career. Not to say Pete Rose and Jastremski and Hank Aaron haven't write something about Yvonne Rodriguez makes me think it's him just because he's played catcher for like 100 years. Honestly we should have a phone a friend option. I know, I know, I know I need more straight to your phone in. Okay, so I'm thinking I have a thing with these today so I want to go deep Ivan Rodriguez, we're locking in. Alright, come on, let's see what we, come on. Zero, right, Yes, that's right. Alright with thursday's appearance. Albert Pujols has now tied Hank Aaron and Carl Jastremski for the second most consecutive opening day starts. The trio falls just short of Pete Rose. Yes, charlie hustle himself who holds holds the record with 23 Yvonne Rodriguez appeared in 20 straight opening days. Albert Pujols has already said this season will be his last, so Pete's record is safe for the foreseeable. Alright. Alright, alright guys last one here, thursday was also national beer day we celebrated here. It was a perfect excuse to drink your favorite ice cold beverage now to celebrate the day the brewers association released its annual craft brewing industry production report. Craft beer now makes up 13% of the overall beer market as U. S. Craft brewers rebounded from the pandemic with 8% nationally. Annual growth. That's pretty good. The top craft brewing companies of 2020 to include D. G. Yuengling and Son boston beer company and sierra Nevada brewing. I think we're all pretty familiar with those now. Of course the craft beer industry is booming but kind of almost never happened because the market has one president in particular to think which leads us to our last tribute, which president deregulated the beer industry deregulation. Is it Richard Nixon jimmy carter Ronald Reagan or Lyndon B. Johnson? This is the moment Brett Kavanaugh wishes he was president here for this one. I don't know this one and I'm a politics sometimes. I was worried. I thought yeah I don't think so. What president do you think? Maybe you think it's either Richard Nixon or Lyndon B. Johnson? We would have known. Right. Right. Right. So okay so Nixon would have been in the seventies, john would have been in the sixties. I mean you're right carter and and and regular drinking. Right that was the eighties. So you're right, we would have been drinking by then. So it's it's I think you're right, it's got to be either a or d but clearly he is not working for me today. You wanna go you wanna go, you wanna go drinking Erickson? You want Nixon to deregulate the industry? I can't see him being a beer drinker. Okay, so what Lyndon johnson, He probably was a beer drinker. Do you wanna go D again? Okay johnson will work this time. Come on. No. Okay so this is what happens when you talk yourself into so many different ways. Yeah. Listen you just wasn't your letter this week. Alright. Current huge growth in craft brewing can be traced back to the peanut farmer himself. President jimmy carter in 1979. He deregulated the beer market which had been tightly controlled since the end of prohibition when the 21st, excuse me when the 21st Amendment was ratified in 1933 it ended prohibition but shut small scale producers out of the market with regulations greatly benefiting large beer makers, Carter signed the Cranston enact 46 years later following multiple failed attempts by home brewers to get legislation passed, the new bill allowed home home brewers to brew up to 200 gallons a year. And today homebrewing is how over 95% of craft brewers learned their trade. So if you're enjoying a few cold ones tonight, make sure jimmy carter like I feel bad. I feel like I didn't give him a second term in office. That should have been his campaigns. He himself has said he enjoys enjoys the occasional white wine but doesn't actually drink beer well that he's even more. I mean, look, he's still alive to this day, really, Whatever no one even knows about that. And look at the favor that jimmy carter did for all of us America.
