Thousands of Reddit Communities Go Dark in Protest of API Changes

More than 6000 communities on REDDIT have gone dark and they're restricting access in a protest to changes that the company is making to its developer billing structure. The blackout happening now started this morning and comes after the company which has been reportedly seeking an IPO since 2021 told developers that it would start charging thousands of dollars for access to an application programming interface or a the post announcing the blackout uses also encourages users to write complaints with a list of demands that puts A P issues as top priority. They also want third party apps to be able to run advertising for the developers benefit.
