TikToker Josh Helfgott documented his experience trying to donate blood and being turned away because he is gay, despite the country dealing with a severe blood shortage. The restriction has been in place since 1983 with a minor tweak in 2015. Helfgott joined Cheddar News to share his experience and his activism to finally get it rescinded. "The FDA needs to lift their ban immediately and allow gay and bisexual men to donate blood because your sexuality is not a risk factor," he said. "Your sexual behavior is a risk factor."
