Tips to Make Your Next Move Painless

Nobody likes but tens of millions of Americans do it every single year and some of the most popular is time to do it. Over 80%. Uh of the yearly moves happened between April and September on our, on the scene with some helpful advice for you this morning. Hey, Shan, oh my gosh. I'm tired just thinking about moving right now. I don't want to move again in a very long time. I've moved a lot in the last few years, including just coming to New York City last year. But I know it can be stressful. We have tips for you. So don't worry, we're here at the court showroom in New York City and Kendra Larson is here because you are the pro when it comes to moving and helping people move stress free. So talk to us a little bit more about what court does. Well, we've been doing this for a while, like you said. Uh so we know we know the stressful factor and at court, we're the easy, but so we make it easy because we take great joy and pride out of getting people relocated and acclimated to their new city. Quickly fast and affordably depending on your situation. Well, since you guys have been doing this for 50 years, talk to me about the biggest mistake you see people make when it's time to move, the biggest mistake is probably they're not anticipating the stress. So if you just simply say it's going to be stress, stressful moving and you start building in some life hacks for that, ok? You said you moved a few times lately. Have you ever moved things that you shouldn't have. So for example, we moved an entire box of boxes on this last move. Why? That's ridiculous because you didn't anticipate that it's stressful and you didn't declutter. So get rid of your duplicates, get rid of declutter. Spend some time organizing the stuff you already had if you're not choosing court because you know, court moves, we deliver, we deliver, we install and then we pick it up when you don't want to big red court trucks. But if you decide to hire a mover, put some time in beforehand, making sure they're only moving the stuff you really love, you really want and get rid of everything. Well, that's what's hard for a lot of people. They don't know how to declutter or how to pick which items go and which items stay or go into trash. How do you make that decision? I think you start with, where are you moving to? Are you going from a house to an apartment? Are you going the other way? So that has a lot to do with it, space for it. And why are you moving to be, get more experience in the outdoors? You not even in your, your space or are you gonna be hunkered down because you really want to spend some quality time, you know, with the grandkids or whatever and everything that you put on that truck could cost you more if they're, you know, charging you by the size of space you use in the truck. So a lot of times people are trying to find the right moving company. How do you pick the right moving company? I don't think I had one good moving company. Yeah, I should have used courts but uh how do you pick the right moving company is a lot of times you get what you pay for type of situation or it is tough. I say use your resources. So if you know people who have moved, start talking to them about what moving company they've used and, and go by, you know, the good old, who do you trust? Who do you know? Can you, can you access them? Can you call them up and say, would you recommend them? And why? And if that moving company has all the things you want, then go for it. Are there any scams out there that you've heard of with moving companies trying to, you know, I, I had this moving company, I say this because they wanted to charge me per step that I had, I was like, what they're charging per step. So, are there any things that people should be leery about when they're picking a moving company? I think just, there's a lot of ways moving companies can either add fees or, or a fees or things like that. But I think overall, I think just do your homework and make sure that, um, again, you put in a little bit of stress because sometimes when you hire moving companies, they get stuck in Chicago for two days, they do that and remember that's a stressful piece. So use your, are there any things that you can do to prepare for those delays? That could happen? Uh, a good tip that we, uh, we recommend is always yourself travel with a bag of 2 to 3 days worth of stuff like a carry on bag, like a carry on bag, pajama, extra set of clothes, snacks because you're waiting for the moving truck. You're always hungry. You don't wanna leave. You're gonna miss the. That's right. Some people even bring with them, uh, an air mattress, a blow up air mattress if your bed doesn't arrive or it's not put together yet, you have somewhere to sleep. If the truck is delayed a day, you're in a hotel that costs you money. Well, see, the good thing about court is they provide the furnishings for you. Maybe if you wanna rent for a short period of time or for a long period of time you saw as we walk through the showroom here that they have tons of different things to choose from.
