And yeah, we're still talking about Top Gun Tom Cruise and his Top Gun Maverick team made sure that their presence was definitely felt at this year's Cannes Film Festival. See for yourself. Yeah, All eyes were on Tom Cruise as expected during the festival as you just saw he was treated to a hero's welcome complete with eight Fighter Jets cans headliner was also brought to tears after the screening of the Top Gun sequel. He received the coveted surprise palm D'or award, which is the highest prize award at Cannes. When the credits rolled the crowd gave a warring six minute standing ovation. That is the film continues to receive rave reviews universally the long awaited action sequel hitting theaters on May the 24th. And we were expecting tom Cruise maybe like in the san Diego premiere of Top Gun to show up in a helicopter that he flew himself himself probably know. He basically came in an Uber for all we know, but he was interesting and we gave our viewers some insight into this yesterday cause this was happening when we were on the air right there was a Q and a session beforehand that was very revealing with Tom Cruise. And he basically said he was emphatic that this movie had to be in theaters. He wouldn't, he would not allow paramount to put this on a streaming platform And he continued to talk about the movie going experience. He goes frequently. Apparently he had a hat so that when nobody knows that it's him that's inside the movie theater. And then my favorite part when he was walking the carpet. His bowtie apparently was crooked when he was walking. So Jon hamm, thank God for Jon hamm's john ham went over and fixed his bow tie for their video of this because apparently I need to see video of this. Okay, so after the six minute roaring ovation by the way, that was a long time to clap. Six minutes is a lot like six minutes of just doing this. He was presented with a surprise palm D'or award. I hope I'm pronouncing that Yes. And then he received another ovation that actually brought him to tears and that day he also took part in the master class for acting. So he had a busy day, not just doing everything he had to do, but also celebrating him. This is a big day for Tom Cruise if anything. Also, he continues to show why he is sort of the a list person. 100% action films because of the amount of fans that he brings on this. The amount of money he wrote, he brings in for a lot of these films as well. So it continues to show that even with all the changing landscapes in this industry, Tom Cruise is still a bankable actor baker aside from any franchises for marvel or Dc or Star Wars. Have you, do you remember any movie getting this much hype? Not, I can't, I don't know by the way to your point about the hype has still a 97% rating on rotten tomatoes. All the more reason that everybody is excited to go to. A lot of people are starting to see previews today. So yeah, hopefully that will continue. Alright next week, Disney plus we'll introduce Jedi master Obi wan Kenobi to a new generation of Star Wars fans. I'm excited. However, we may not see many more projects after that based within the Skywalker saga. A. K A the main storyline of the first nine films. In a new interview with Vanity Fair, lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy revealed the lessons she's learned from her Star Wars filmmaking experiences, Including not recasting a core role and needing to introduce new stories. She points to the 2018 Han solo standalone film where Alden Eric Rick was cast in the iconic role made famous by Harrison Ford and that was a disappointment at the box office Kennedy said, quote Now it does seem so abundantly clear that we can't do that. Of course this is especially weird timing considering the Obi wan Kenobi series we just mentioned which stars big names, you and McGregor in a role. Originally made famous by alec Mcginnis and also takes place within the Skywalker saga. She went on to say, quote, we also can't go do something with luke Skywalker that isn't Mark Hamill, I'm a huge Star Wars fan when I first saw this and like I don't like this but you know what it makes sense? I think people are getting sick of the same story lines and they have infinite possibilities of characters that they can actually build on. Yes, true. But also it kind of binds their hands in a sense where okay what happens if Harrison Ford is no longer here? What happens if Mark is no longer here? Do you essentially then have to close off any sort of storyline about Han Solo or about luke Skywalker? She's when you mentioned about the solo thing and she said there was a learning moment, she said maybe I should have recognized this before. We would never have made indiana jones without Harrison Ford having just finished the fifth movie, I can tell you there wasn't a day on set that I was like yes this is indiana jones if he wasn't there. But that to your point or to what I was just saying then that kind of puts him in a difficult situation because now you have to create different characters within the Star Wars universe that are not han solo and they are not luke Skywalker and when we remember the last time Star Wars came out, Carrie Fisher had just died and they had to C. G. Her in there was so much going on CG right? But but but maybe that means that these actors the Harrison Ford's the Mark Hamill's stay within the Star Wars eco sphere forever because they can be digitally replicated into the film. But to the flip side then, do you never basically have another character play that role ever again as a result of that? With that said me and I'm sure millions of people around the world will still see every series in every movie. It's going to do just that if anything, I feel like Solo might be the outlier here. I like Solo. But yes, you get the casting right. I think you could basically still be able to pull it off. I mean if you were wondering when you're gonna be able to see the new DC movie, Wonder Twins. Unfortunately never. Yeah, that's because the film was shut down by Warner brothers Riverdale Star KJ APA at 18 83 actor Isabel May were set to start in the HBO max feature. It was due to start shooting over the summer. However, the film went south due to new rules by Warner brothers Discovery, that's the new company combining Discovery and Warner Brothers and being led by Ceo David Zaslav, the media conglomerate is imposing a mandate that DC movies should now be made with a goal of going straight to theaters before anything else. That's according to the Hollywood Reporter leadership at Warner brothers. Discovery reportedly said that Wonder Twins was too niche. Another source telling the Hollywood reporter that the budget of the film was also too high for what was considered an HBO max movie. Zaslav reportedly is looking to keep original movies on the streaming service under $35 million. Wonder Twins might not be the only thing to end. Also one insider says a lot of things that were developed are going to go away. This comes from us learning and obviously these media companies to habits during the pandemic, what things will stay, what things won't clearly when HBO max was putting every single film of their slate on HBO max. Yes, maybe that helped them with subscriber numbers but at the end of the day that brought no revenue basically for any of these hi big budget films. Dune the list, Wonder Woman. The list goes on and on. So now all of a sudden let's just say according to Hollywood Reporter, the Wonder Twins budget was apparently at $75 million. So all of a sudden if you're thinking oh you're not gonna make that money on HBO max. Well then basically you have to basically pull the plug on that. So then all of a sudden you're only investing in films that you know, you're gonna get a return at the theaters as a result of that. I wonder what other projects are going to get the ax because Wonder Twins, there was a lot of hype around this as well, especially in the comic book world. People are really excited about this and even the casting, but but but there's also a flipside to this, according to the Hollywood reporter, which I thought was interesting, batman has sort of been this nice case study for them because one, it brought in a ton of money for them at the theaters. But then days later they were able to put it on HBO max and they got streaming subscriber numbers on that. They're basically saying at least according to David Zaslav, that if they invest in these high budget films and put them straight on HBO max, they're not getting new subscribers to join just because of that. But if you do something that's a batman and put it on after it's in theaters somehow there's a correlation to that, which I think is interesting. Yeah. And unfortunately the bad news doesn't end there for KJ APA the C W is leaving Riverdale, the drama based on characters from the Archie comics will end with season seven marking the latest long running CW show to come to an end. I didn't realize that besides Apa, the cast includes lili, Reinhart, Camila, Mendez cole Sprouse Riverdale which has aired 100 episodes to date, was renewed for season seven back in March among a handful of other CW shows like The Flash and kung fu, The network also recently asked legends of tomorrow after seven seasons and Dynasty after five seasons, Riverdale will debut, its seventh and final season at midseason in 2023 this show did make all those names. I mentioned household names, stars that we see on the red carpet, I do think personally that was time for Riverdale, but there's a whole dynamic, there are strategies that w is sort of in this very weird spot right now, given the fact that they're potentially gonna get sold CCW by the way, which was owned by Warner Brothers, now getting sold off because of this merger with Discovery. Um, now basically getting sold off and Next Star, which owns a bunch of local media channels, in addition to the news, Nation channel would be essentially be taking over the C. W. And it looks like the C. W. Would then be stripped, it would turn into a, basically a news channel as a result. So now all of those shows that were essentially all of the sort of shows that were in development, the C. W. Are now sort of in this weird purgatory right now, where you have Mark Pedowitz, the president of the C. W. Saying, look, we're still in the business for as long as we're still a company of doing a lot of these shows, but now maybe you won't be seeing them sort of, you know, give a couple of seasons orders for a couple of programs because they don't even know if they're going to be a network in the next couple of C. W. Is one of those networks that did let shows run a lot longer than compared to the time for Riverdale. I mean that could have been a show that could have lasted three or four seasons and then saying talking about this merger just shows the CW's completely going to change because that's how we knew this company is more like a company that geared towards teenagers with their programming and content. But on the flip side a lot of this content would work great on streaming plan. That's true. Even if it's not gonna work on C. W. You've seen Riverdale, Riverdale on netflix. That's true. Well on netflix so you just have to basically put it on a different platform. Alright fans who are waiting to see the newest season of Umbrella Academy, this is just for you. Netflix released the trailer for the third installment of the show. Take a look at this. We caused a paradox and that paradox is swallowing things. How long do we have four, maybe five days before the rest of existence is blitzed not to mention we've been replaced by a bunch of blobs and cubes and birds and your team is good but I don't think you're better than me. I ended the world twice and you you're just meeting spandex dad didn't adopt us as babies but those babies still existed here so if you ever see your other selves to sleep with them, avoid them. The hell is wrong with you? Oh come on is if you wouldn't climb Luther mountain. Yeah the world ending again in the new trailer, we learned that the Umbrella Academy only has a few days once again to end the impending apocalypse. But this go round in an alternate timeline and against an alternate version of themselves called The Sparrow Academy. This is also the first time we will see Vandals character played by Elliot page transition to victor. This of course, comes after Elliott announced his gender transition in 2020. The new season premiering on june the 22nd. Your initial reaction to this trade. I'm so excited, I can't wait. I love the first two seasons. This is one of the first shows actually binge during the pandemic and I love all the actors, I love Elliot page, I love how they're handling the storyline, which I think is interesting because a lot of times you don't sort of see the personal lives of, they don't acknowledge it and transition and enter their characters as well.
