Challenges to Reducing Historic Unemployment Rate During Coronavirus Outbreak
The Bureau of Labor Statistics released the grim numbers from the April jobs report Friday morning, which easily shattered post-World War II numbers. 20.5 Americans lost their jobs and unemployment rose to 14.7% as the nation continues to deal with the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic. This afternoon, President Trump said the White House is in no rush to negotiate a phase 4 stimulus package with congress. Michel Madowitz, economist for the Center for American Progress, breaks down the jobs report and suggests what a future stimulus package would need to include to help people regain employment.
