U.S. Civics & History Test Scores Drop Nationwide

We're just beginning to see the long term effects of the pandemic on education in the US. Scores in US. History and civics for eighth graders are down and that's according to a national assessment of educational progress. This year's history scores are actually the lowest they've been since they started keeping track. Back in 1994 only 14% of students reached at or above the proficient mark in history. And this year is also the first time civic scores have ever dropped. The US Education Secretary Miguel Corona says that the findings further affirm the profound impact that the pandemic had on student learning beyond math and reading the N E assesses proficiency in these subjects every four years. And these results are the first ones to actually include pandemic learning.
