Veterans Health Administration to Cover Alzheimer’s Drug

A drug called Lock MBI has shown to decrease cognitive decline in people with early Alzheimer's by about 27%. That's the amount by which it could slow it down. But this is an incredibly expensive drug. Today, the Veterans Health administration announced it will cover the $26,500 cost for veterans. This is big because Medicare is not even covering this drug until the FDA gives it full approval. The V A is the largest health system in the U S every year. It serves nine million veterans, almost 168,000 of whom had Alzheimer's disease in 2022. This drug does carry the risk of brain swelling and bleeding.
