While people have been unable to attend sporting events or watch new movies in theaters during the coronavirus pandemic, the video game industry has leveled up. According to research company IDC, revenue from video games is expected to reach close to $180 billion this year, raking in more money than the global movie and North American sports industries combined. Mario Stefanidis, Associate at Roundhill Investments, breaks down the numbers and says overall high demand across the space has led to game consoles, like the PS5 and the Xbox Series X and Series S models, remaining unavailable to prospective buyers.
