Hello. Hello, welcome to Between Bells everyone. I'm baker machado and I'm an adobo. Thank you so much for joining us, we have a big show ahead. How exactly does Hollywood get those massive worlds from game of Thrones to Avengers? Just right, we're sitting down with the company behind it all so excited. That is a great question. I can't wait to find that answer. Plus there's so many bizarre headlines this week, especially this week in particular. So we're gonna recap our favorite ones coming up in just a little bit and our favorite segment of the week, it's friday. That means we have trivia a little bit later. Can't wait for that. But first let's get you caught up in some of the top entertainment headlines were falling for you today and Viola Davis is opening up about the entertainment industry's perception of black talent in a very revealing conversation with variety at Cannes. The Oscar winning actor is speaking out on Hollywood's slow progress when it comes to racial equality and how the How to Get Away with Murder Star is one of the only series fronted by a dark skinned black woman on tv during its six season run and that it didn't create more opportunities for people like her. Listen here, I know that when I left How to Get away with Murder, I don't see a lot of dark skinned women in lead roles on tv, not even in streaming services. So once again that goes into ideology and ethos and mentality and that's speaking in the abstract. Why aren't you hiring a dark skinned woman when she walks in the room and you say she blows you away then create space and storytelling for her. So when she thrives, she's not thriving despite of her circumstance stances, she's thriving because of the circumstances. Now, one of the more shocking anecdotes here, Viola Davis also revealed that a director once called her by his maid's name, The actor saying, quote, he said Louise, I knew him for 10 years and he called me Louise and I find out that's because that's his maid's name. I was maybe about 30 at the time. So it was a while ago. But what you have to realize is that these microaggressions happened all the time, which that is such a revealing, I can't believe that happened and by the way, we don't know who the director is that she didn't list that. Another thing she she mentioned, which I think is really interesting is the fact that it's still, even though with all of her success very difficult for a black woman at her age, she feels like to get roles. She said if I wanted to play a mother whose family lives in a low income neighborhood and my son was a gang member who died in a drive by, I could get that made. But if I wanted to play a woman who was looking to recreate herself by flying to niece and sleeping with five men at the age of 56 looking like me, I'm gonna have a hard time getting that one even as Viola Davis, I think that was so interesting and so brave for her to speak up. I love that she said that and if this is happening to Viola Davis, imagine other women who are trying to just get those roles or just breaking into Hollywood. And don't forget when she was in love with Julia roberts, look, she had sort of a supporting role in that Julia roberts, obviously getting the lead in all of that. She goes on to say people can't reconcile, reconcile the blackness with spiritual awakening and sexuality. It is way too much for people to process. Hopefully these projects do take off because I want to see that she's one of the best actresses on the planet by far and he's taken a few years off of matt murdock. Ak daredevil, The Attorney by day, vigilante by night is returning five years after the netflix series starring charlie cox ended marvel Studios is now moving forward with a daredevil series for Disney Plus that's according to variety rumors have been circulating for a while now that a series about the man without fear was in the works and an appearance by charlie cox in Spiderman, No way home. Remember that Plus Vincent general Rios return as the villain Qingping in Hawkeye series sent those whispers into overdrive marvel has yet to formally announce anything regarding the new show. However, according to the report, the Team Behind the USA network original series, covert affairs has reportedly been tapped to write and executive produced the show other netflix marvel series, including Jessica jones starring Krysten, Ritter and luke cage starring mike Colter. So this news could open the door to their return as well. I'm all about this. The rumors have been going around for quite some time now and so, and if you would have to think all those sort of marvel netflix shows what sort of the statute in the contracts that allows a place like Disney Plus to finally bring them on because variety is reporting that in 2018 this deal with netflix and marvel included a cause a clause that prevented any characters from marvel. Netflix shows from appearing on any non netflix platform for at least two years, which is why we're now getting daredevil now, finally on Disney Plus, but who knows all these other marvel characters that have appeared on different streaming platforms, what the clauses are in these contracts that then would finally allow them to come on Disney plus here. Meanwhile, if you love squid game and who didn't get ready for this, the creator squid game is creating a new series, all about creating squid game squid game creator young dong yoke telling deadline that he's an early stage development on a satire all about making the popular netflix show, which turned him into an overnight sensation. Now, this is tentatively titled the best show on the planet because who knows it actually might be wang says there are not very many details at the moment to share, as he's also currently focused on the second season of squid game, very, very busy guy. By the way, they also revealed squid game, they're gonna take a little bit longer to get the next season done of squid game. So potentially the next season of squid game will not air on netflix until potentially 2023 I think 2024 we're gonna be getting at least a couple of years before the next season. But this is interesting because netflix, netflix, by the way, really going heavily in korean markets when international, international shows, but korean markets in particular, these actors, especially for the first season squid game, we're not paid substantially well at all because at the time netflix just didn't think that was gonna be a huge hit. It turned into such a huge hit and the problem was they weren't paid adequately for that first season. But now as a result of the success of that, you're seeing them get other deals now within netflix to do more content and more shows, which is great, which is great news to hear. I also love the premise of the show. I would love to curb your enthusiasm. I want to see how he handles that. And by the way that there's another curb your enthusiasm as show coming out with Pete Davidson on peacock. So clearly there's a formula that Larry David has made, that everybody wants people figure Larry David's been doing this for 400 years. Also, Warner Brothers is making another Ocean's 11 movie, but it's heading back in time to do just that. A new film starring Margot. Robbie is an active development at the studio. That's according to multiple reports, the actor who is set to star and produce the project will be teaming back up with director Jay Roach who helped Robbie get a best supporting actress. Oscar nomination for 2019 drama bombshell details on the script are being kept under wraps, but it's reportedly expected to take place far away from Sin City in 19 sixties europe. It is meant to be a prequel to the original Ocean's 11 film starring frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr Insiders Tell the Hollywood Reporter the goal is to begin production on the new Ocean's 11 film in spring of 2023 I'm sure it'll be great. I still don't know what the connection will be. Yeah. And the thing is, it's like, so as you mentioned, it's supposed to take place in the sixties likely in europe as well. But the mindset essentially is is that the oceans brand is everybody knows about it. But you can take it in so many different directions. This doesn't have to just be a brad pitt George Clooney or the women or the women have to take it in so many different directions because everybody associates the ocean's franchise with a heist. So you could have in the 19 sixties, you could have a present day, you could have it with, anyone. Might be the only correlation is the highest. Exactly, exactly. That's the literally only correlation here. Alright. And last night, new york city was hosted, the launch of Sports Illustrated 2022 swimsuit edition. Cheddar news, Senior reporter Michele Castelli a was there last night she talked to all the Stars. Let's take a listen. The 2022 sports illustrated Swimsuit issue is out and it includes a lot more women of different sizes and colors. So we wanted to ask the models themselves how they felt about a more inclusive sports illustrated. This is one of the most diverse and inclusive issues of Sports Illustrated ever. What does it mean to you to be part of it? Especially as a cover star? Oh, it's amazing. You know, MJ Day had such an incredible vision for this magazine and she wanted to level up, you know, really level up the diversity and inclusivity and it's so important that when women read a magazine like this that they can connect and relate and for me being a woman of color, you know, I joined like not even a handful. We're almost at a handful. Or maybe I make the handful of women of color have been on the cover of this magazine. Well, it's very special. I mean it's um just showing that women of all ages can walk around in a swimsuit and feel good about themselves and not to fear aging. And I think that's an important message. It's powerful. Inclusion is necessary. It is impactful. It changes people's minds, It makes them understand who they are. It's the time for us to come and collect ourselves and say if she can do what I can. Also, that's what I want to be about those magazines. I want to be on the car. Both of those are the conversations I want to be having and to be able to see myself in that magazine in 2021 and two come back 2022. It's powerful. This magazine is like one of the most magazines and for it to be in so many households and little girls and boys and whoever to be able to look at it and see so many different sizes, so many different ethnicities and shapes and that's what we need. Thanks, of course, to our senior reporter Michele Castelli and this year's Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition out now, many different covers may musk on one kim Kardashian. But one thing I do love about this, this Sports Illustrated Edition, almost all the women on the cover, older, over 35 I believe. It was just a few years ago, nine a decade ago that you would say if you're over 30 you're out of Hollywood. So I love this change that we're saying, I agree.
